Hi all, havnt posted for a while. I have a 2005 GS with 35K on the clock. FD was rebuild by Mikeyboy ~10K miles ago. So last week I'm driving to work and I can swear I'm hearing something I dont normally hear. Get the bike home, put it on its CS, put it in 1st and turn the engine on. There is a knocking noise from the rear of the swingarm . My question is: Can the driveshaft be repaired or am I looking at a new one.

Thanks in advance Spanish

.

With the bike on the centre stand the drive shaft angles are well out of the normal range so the UJ's won't like it.

Backlask in the drivetrain will also make the noises worse.

DO NOT RUN IT IN GEAR ON THE STAND:blast

Do some basic checks.....

bike on centre stand... Does the wheel move side to side when rocked holding at 12 and 6 o'clock positions? That's sideways... NOT rotational.

If that's OK remove the rear wheel and drop (Pivot down) the final drive to examine the rear UJ. It should move freely with no notches or tight spots.

The front UJ is harder to check but you can pull the shaft and refit it without removing the swinging arm.. awkward for some but perfectly doable...

If the shaft is toast... Mikeyboy rebuilds them.

Roger.
