Im sure this must have been asked before,and i guess answered at some great length,but here goes.
Has any one come up with a sucessfull way of wiring in auxillery lights to the 1200.And before some one replies "Yes Touratech for £300" or any such company i mean for a reasonable price.I've tried the search function but i cant seem to find any thing.Thanks.y'all :thumb

Illuminator Set R1200GS (Micro-Flooters)
The Wunderlich Micro-Flooters greatly improve night time visibility. The lights put out 55 watts each and use conventional H1 headlight bulbs. The reflectors create a very wide light pattern while increasing light output far down the road. The kit includes two lights, two laser cut and anodized aluminum mounts, a custom wiring harness for the R1200GS, and a switch. Another bright idea from Wunderlich.

Don't rush out and do anything yet...... I'll post some info either this evening or tomorrow that gives you much more flexability. :thumb
 
Whilst the Wunderlich and Tity lights are expensive, don't forget they include custom-made attachments, plus all the wiring. I have the TT lights and despite dropping the bike many times offroad they have never suffered damage, so the position is well thought out.

I mounted some inexpensive Hella FF50s to my bike and mounted them to a Martin Fabrication mount. Here's a page showing it:

I can also highly recommend the Hella FF50's - excellent light pattern, great compact size, good price, excellent aesthetics...what more can I say?
 
I couldn't mount aux. lights in the usual location, because I use an Aeroflow half fairing, so I went with piaa 1100x mounted on the HB crash bars. Excellent lights, bought on e-bay for $159. I considered the Hella's, but wasn't sure there would be enough clearance from the side panels. The piaa's fit nicely. Very happy with them.
 
Still, you've got to ask, will additional lights drain too much power from the R1200GS to insure proper operation of the ....brakes?? :(
 
In my experience, no. The alternator can supply up to 600W, and is quite capable of keeping the battery charged while running a few extra lights and the brake servos.
 
Why do you guys need extra lights? having ridden various single headlight bikes (and various cars) I have to say the 1200 light is incredible by comparison - 60 plus down dark twisty roads no bother.
Think you lot need to eat some carrots

Without a doubt, the 1200 has the worst lights I've ever seen....... and that includes the standard 35w lights that come fitted on Japanese 400cc imports! Mind you, if I'd your eyes it would have saved me a twoer (as I try and pretend the extra lights are only there for purely functional reasons) :rolleyes:

Anyway, still havent' got the photos sorted, but.......
If you look to the left and right of the headlight assembly (from behind) you will see a wee rubber thing about 1cm/ half inch long running vertically. This is actually a cable feed point/grommet. Depending if you want the lights to run on dipped or high beam, pick the left or right rubber, and pull it straight out of the housing and work a wire through it.

Use 2 "piggyback" connectors between the lamp and the connector block (removing the extra tab from the negative so that one only acts as a spacer), and connect the newly inserted wire to the live. Connect the other end of the wire to the coil of a relay. Run the lamps off the relay. Whenever the (dipped or main according to which one you fed off) lights come on, the auxilliary lights will kick in.

If required, you can also fit a switch between the headlight (not the auxilliary) and relay to make them switchable. Since the relay draws virtually no current, it doesn't effect the bikes electronics. Also, since it draws virtually no current, if you switch it you can use a light duty water resistant switch, rather than a heavy duty waterproof switch (which can be pretty expensive :( ).

Cracking light brackets available from http://www.adventurersworkshop.com/gmtmoto.htm , I've got a set of Hella FF50s slung under mine and another set which shall remain nameless ('cause I forget) slung over with 55w 24v lamps to give 23w (ish) running lights. Works a treat!
 
Cheers for that Wizzard thats just the info ive been looking for.I must say that i had wondered wheter i could take a feed from the bulb ,and then i came up with te idea of a light sensitive switch to drag in the spots when thye main came on .Many Thanks.Aaahhhhhhhhhhh MY HERO......... :clap

The standard 1200 lights are pathetic, unless of course youride at very slow speeds. Compared to any Honda (VFR or Pan) that i have owned the last 10 years the 1200 or any BMW lights just dont cut it !! Only answer is to fit some decent aftermarket lights. The TT set up is expensive but at least you can see. Even with blue bulbs etc the light cannons are a damp squib :beer: . as for carrots i come from a long line of see in the dark bunnies :thumb
