The DSA have implemented a policy in which they will refuse to test a rider if he is deemed to be wearing inappropriate gear such as trainers, tracksuits etc. Even thought theres is no law that prevents riding on the public highway in this attire.

Denims, walking boots, cargo pants etc are considered ok.

I took a guy to his Mod 1 test at the Birmingham Garretts Green test centre today; he was wearing denims. After checking his docs, kitting him up and walking out to the bike the examiner then decided that his denims were not of sufficient robustness and brought him back into the waiting room. He told me he would not test my student as in his opinion his denims did not meet the required standard. :blast So I just though fcuk you mr pedantic examiner and I took my boots off and dropped my textile riding keks in the middle of the waiting room, much to the amusement of the various car/bike instructors and their students waiting for tests. I told my student to do the same and we swapped trollies. Neil is not Tosser size so had to pull the belt in several notches and the chances of the sides of his waistband meeting in the middle of my belly were non-existant. :D

Anyhoo, even with the proverbial baggy trousers Neil passed his test and after getting his certificate we did the reverse swap in the waiting room.

Well that was a first for me, I just hope that I don't have to repeat the stripshow too often.:rolleyes:

Nice one, and he passed which makes it even better.
They are a pedantic bunch, but they hold the power until you have passed, and they seem to like that, a lot!!!

Quick thinking there mate!, not worth an argument at the time in case it jeopardised his test:thumb2. Possibly worth keeping a second hand pair in your pannier off ebay just in case, best get tosser sized ones just to be sure they'll fit most folks:D

That, sir, is pure class.

If only the rest of the House of Lords had that sort of attitude then this country could go far!

Wish someone had got the examiners face on camera! Prick! When I was instructing we used to refer to the DSA as the Double Standards Agency. This is another fine example. I doubt if the prick examiner will try that one again as his bluff was well and truely called!

However, upon passing I believe it would have been prudent for both you and the student to bare your arses at said examiner!:likeit

Nice one Mike!! But what training have the Dual Standards Agency examiners had to determine the robustness of denim?

Again, well done sir :beerjug:

Does this mean car examiners won't test people with haircuts that obscure their vision? or glasses with thick side bars that obscure their periferal vision? (I wear glasses so no dig at glasses wearers in general)

My wife went for her CBT training on a bright summers day, full gear - boots, armoured tousers, armoured jacket, gloves and a full face lid.....with a slightly tinted visor.

Kid on scooter turned up in trainers with laces undone, jeans, paddock jacket no gloves and helmet with clear visor.

Instructor spent 10 mins abusing my wife for the slightly tinted visor as it would be illegal to use at night, not a word to scooter boy!

Fortunately she only told me this after she'd finished and returned home otherwise the "instructor" :ronno might have had a bit of a hairdrying off me

DSA introduced the rules without talking to anyone in the industry and the first most candidates knew about it was when the notices went up in test centres - full details:

The DSA says: “We are reminding learner motorcyclists to wear suitable clothing when they take their Module One and Two motorcycle tests. While most motorcycle trainers encourage their pupils to wear the best protective motorcycle gear that they can afford, some candidates aren’t following this advice.

“DSA doesn’t want to restrict candidates to wearing the most expensive protective motorcycle clothing. However, DSA examiners won’t ignore or condone riding a motorcycle or scooter while wearing unsuitable clothing. Tests won’t go ahead if candidates are inappropriately dressed.”

BOX OUT
WHAT CANDIDATES SHOULD – AND SHOULDN’T - WEAR

The DSA advises that, as a general guide, the following is the minimum level of clothing acceptable:

* motorcycle boots
* sturdy footwear or boots that provide support and ankle protection
* textile or leather motorcycle trousers
* heavy denim trousers
* heavy denim jacket with several layers underneath
* textile or leather motorcycle jacket
* motorcycle gloves

Clothing the DSA will not find acceptable:

* lightweight training shoes
* canvas basket ball trainers
* any form of clothing with areas of exposed skin
* shell suit or lightweight tracksuit
* distressed ripped jeans
* lightweight fleece or hoody
* no gloves or skiing gloves

In all cases it’s a legal requirement that riders wear an approved and correctly fastened motorcycle helmet,* with suitable eye protection (*an exception is made for members of the Sikh religion wearing a turban).

Dear Lord!

Well done! :clap

no point in getting mad, when - (removal of pants and ) turning the other cheek shows them up! :D

Well done Lord Snooty............... class act

BUT....... Coz of this type of twat working at the DSA, what are the chances that your students pass rate will, as a result of this childish stunt, go down? It's very difficult to really get the last laugh with such a bunch of officious, power crazed, cnuts.

When I passed my test (before there was a DSA:rolleyes:) denim were 'de rigeur', with DM's and a nylon jacket, gloves and open face helmet:blagblah

Excellent! Well done, you.

Encouraged my youngest through his test eighteen months ago & went through the whole 'new' test procedure with him, practice, practice & more practice etc.

To go through all of this with him and for him to turn up at the test centre and be met with an arsehole such as this guy would have simply destroyed his confidence, so from a dad and a biker, THANK YOU :thumb2
