Dunlop Roadsmart

Well put :thumb2

Not found the EXP's lacking for grip, already caught my foot a couple of times without even thinking I was going quick.

I just like to know I have more grip than bravery, the problem with grip is you either have too much or not enough, there is no real in between state, sure the Tourances are perfectly adequate, but if I hit a damp patch, or slick bit of road perhaps the Roadsmarts will hang on where the Tourances may not, and as stated it is not like I am missing a whole load of off-road capability.

Gonna get some ordered for end of the month.

Just ordered a set of Roadsmarts, I looked at the alternatives and was very tempted by the new TR91's but kept going back to the advice I got from Dunlop themselves:

For between £200 and £210 I had a choice of Tourance EXP's, Roadsmarts or TR91's fitted and balanced to loose wheels, I enquired about PR3's but were told these would be at least £20 more so ruled them out.

I was also recomended the original Michelin Pilot roads as apparently these are available in GS sizes and at a bargain £170 ish for a pair.

My usual tyre supplier told me that there are no plans to do a PR3 in the 19" fitment as with PR2's.

Having tried the Battlewings, then Roadsmarts and now Conti Trail Atacks I'm going back to the Roadsmarts. I want the faster turn in rates and better grip wet and dry more than the cost savings. The Battlewings were better than the Trail Attacks but the Roadsmarts are markedly better in all respects if you only ride on tarmac. The Conti's are the only ones I have tried which have let go front and back in the dry. Got a new set of Roadsmarts off Ebay for £197 delivered.

Footnote

8000 miles covered now which I am very happy with. The tyre has performed faultlessly throughout, kept it's profile, and continues to feel very sure footed. Only the tiniest chicken strip on both sides. Rear was beginning to look worn (I'll try to post a pic later) so was going to replace soon then I picked up a puncture yesterday. The temp fix means the rear will be replaced a week or two before it would otherwise have been. Another Roadsmart will be going on to match the front which still has plenty of tread.

8000 miles covered now

Bloody hell, my first rear was changed at 3.5k with about 2mm left (About to go on tour) the current one is just above the wear marks (1.5mm ish) and has about 3700 miles on it - and I don't even cane the bike!

Many miles have been two-up, but as I get better mpg when two up than I do solo it would suggest my smoother two-up touring riding is not particularly hard on the tyres.

The front looked good, but I changed both as wanted new pair for tour, I am guessing I may get 8k to a front, but unlikely to eek more than 4k from a rear.

Still, I love the grip and feedback so probably gonna stick with them (especially as I can go through two more rears before I would need to buy another front - by which time I will be buying a new bike)

Fitted Dunlop Trailmax TR91's to my GSA 2 months ago and got to say what a brilliant tyre all weathers and looks good for this bike. Came from OEM Battlewings and ride transformed, to me they look enduro but have grip of a normal road tyre having alot of the technology of the Roadsmart in its compound. Cannot comment about miliage yet but to be honest don't care that much, give me grip any time, any spill on a bike this expensive will be more costly than an second earlier set of tyres and your life is priceless!
