Just got a new 1200GS dealer put on Dunlop Trailmax tyres, any opinions on these, I had Tourance tyres on previous 1200 and had 100% trust in these.

... I had 607 Trailmax as my OEM tyres. Generally I thought better wet and dry weather grips levels than Tourrances, but a little bit less feedback when they are getting close to letting go.

... But you won't have 'em long I shot mine out in 4,500 miles and then went to Tourrances which lasted nearly 9,000.

... Got BT020s on at the moment ... sticky, sticky, sticky and very confidence inspiring.

... Buena Suerte

Mine 'was' on Dunlop trailmax. A broken bit of a stanley blade through the rear tyre put paid to that, the front was removed and that's in the back of the garage. Motorrad Servies Manchester, run by Mitch (I rang him as he'd been plugged on this site before) told me that the new Tourances should last a little longer, and give better 'feel' at the same time.

I have yet to take it out of the garage to try that for myself :o but I haven't really got that much riding time... I think the Dunlops have about 4000 and somat mile on them, front looks ok to me. The back was getting a bit of a flat spot forming, which I understand is an MOT failure :nenau and a symptom of me not going round enough corners :blush :rolllaugh

I had the Dunlops as original fitment and didn't like them at all. Fortunately they wore out pretty quick. Mich Anakee replacements were much better. Now running Bridgestone Battlewings and these are the best yet. Not sure if they will last quite as long as the Anakees as I have only done 3K on them and they are beginning to square off (done a lot of motorway work recently :( ). A bit of back lane scatching should knock them into shape.

Mine came with 607s (trailmax) they are one of the best tyres I've had for grip but wear quite quickly. The grip is far better than tourances (on the road) and better than the 020s (IMHO) now I'v got the battlewings and they seem a good compromise and come with lots of deep, deep, tread and I've ground down the brake pedal in corners so they have good grip.

In a recent report in the Da Motorad they reconmmend the dunlops for the enthusiastic rider who needs the grip, so don't worry they are an excellent tyre buit maybe not for any serious off road use.

I'm glad you said that, as I really like the Dunlops, loads of grip and feedback and lots of warning of when they are gonna let go (and when they do it's very progressive).

I currently have 020's and whilst they are very good I keep having a nagging feeling that the Dunlops are better - glad it's not just me :thumb2

The one place the 020's score better is high speed stability and for this reason I've really been in a quandry as to whether to go for the 'new' 020's (due out March) or back to the Dunlops.

From what you have said the Bridgestones sound great but what is high speed stability like (three figures and fully loaded)?

BTW mileage is not an issue for me, grip and handling come top of my list :)

PS Sorry to hijack the thread a leetle!

You'll never get a staight answer in a tyre debate. It's like asking what's the best type of woman or who makes the nicest socks. Too subjective and most people (me included) never push a tyre to it's ultimate limits of grip top be able to answer honestly. Perhaps if Ron Haslem were to ride a GS12 for 5000 miles on each set of tyres in all conditions you might get an opinion based on fact. The contridictions on this thead (and many many before it on the subject of tyres) speaks volumes. If you like 'em, stick with 'em, else try something else.

And that sir, sums it all up rather nicely :thumb2

I don't find a problem with high speed stability on the Battlewings, two up fully loaded at 120 on the aurobahn I didn't notice a problem (mind you the buffetting was so bad maybe I wouldn't). Another tyre I was impressed with for road use is the Mich Road Pilot, great wear, good in the wet but definitely road only.
TBH the GS handles so well even a poor tyre would probably be OK-ish. The 020 is a bit old tech now but still good, Ithink you can get the Conti road attack in GS sizes now and that's suppossed to be cutting edge (whatever that means);)
