I did this a few years ago - actually quite a treck from Calais to Dusseldorf East, but you do wake up to some lovely Bavarian mountains.
Have fun getting on to the trailer - especially if you have a tall bike. The bikes get on the rear and you ride forwards on the lower deck. The roof is very low (bang bang bang on your helmet) and the floor slopes to the middle between the wheels....So.....
Were you to have a large tank bag preventing you leaning far forward, and were the bikes in front to stop when you are in the middle of the carriage, and were you to have shortarse legs on a 1150GSA, you may find your feet about 10cm off the floor and then the entertainment of the afternoon is you falling nearly off the wagon onto the tracks.......
Do apraoch the kraut bikers and join them for a beer - very sociable they are in my experience.
Double check because they were talking about stopping bikes going on the Autorail, apparently passengers and cars were going by train and the bikes were going to be transferred overnight by truck.
