Sat imn France with a new Samsung N110 netbook. I've got a 'wanadoo'(orange) e-mail account which I can't get into. I've tried the help menu and tinkered about with settings as suggested. It still wont let me3 log in. I've also tried to go use outlook express and have progressed as far as receiving e-mail but I can't use it to send because it doesn't accept the settings suggrested by orange.

Any ideas appreciated.

just use wanadoo web mail instead of POP3 perhaps?

i suppose wannado do do webmail :nenau

Web Mail

Cookie,

Thanks for the response. If you mean go in direct via orange website I've tried that but it doesn't accept e mail address and password. If it's more complex than that and means altering settings etc. I should mention I'm not dead smart on these things.

I'm accessing the net via an unsecured wifi hotspot if that helps.

I have managed to contact the help and support people at orange but so far they havent come up with anything that works.

Im about to give up and just surf. S*d the e mails.:eek

As far as I have determined Wanapoo doesn't allow access to its SMTP servers from non-Orange servers/ISPs

You should be able to do what Cookie suggests and use Orange webmail, but it seems you can't recall your settings.

I don't think both problems are linked.

That does regulary happen with Orange webmail, even though I know my settings, I just leave it for a day or two, then it works again, but then its not that crucial that I need to pick up my mail, maybe its worth you running a hotmail account as well and if your having problems, have someone at home forward it to your hotmail account :nenau

Out of ideas

That's two of us. Thanks for taking the time to respond. Magnet just had a really good idea. 'Sod the e-mail, lets have a beer:beerjug:

I'll just have to console myself with the views;

Ta.

Thanks for your views. The people here say that others have problems with wanapoo users. I think you're right also Judge, there are two different problems.

easy

bin the wanadoo and get yersel a googlemail account (you can then sign in from any computer and most mobile phones). You can get the googlemail server to check other accounts but I'm not sure if it'll do wanapoo.

I`ve come across this many times before.

Most ISPs won`t allow mail to be sent to other servers in this case orange, you have to change the outgoing SMTP server in outlook or outlook express to be the ISPs SMTP server.

This server address can often be hard to find out but if you know the ISP that the hotspot is using maybe you can do a search and find it, it will be something like mail.(ISP).com or smtp.(ISP).fr or whatever.

Hope this helps.
