Hi Guys
I'm new to this sort of thing and hope that what I have done is OK and in the right place. My question is for the computer buffs out there, over the last few weeks I have been inundated with Junk mail / Spam and want to know if its possible to change my email address to something completely different to stop all this shit coming into my mail box. I do log into my email address on the home page of Orange to see what’s in my box first and delete all the Spam from there before opening up Outlook Express, but having to do this every time is a pain in the arse.
Hope someone can help,
Tommo

check out this thread.

you could ask orange for a different address & that would work for a while, but same thing would happen again in the long run.

getting your own domain name or using an ISP that lets you have a subdomain would make switching easier. you could have [email protected] or [email protected] then with first "anything" changed by you at anytime.

BTW sadly i suspect tommo.com is probably taken :D

Try Mailwasher. Its free if you're just using one account (or it used to be anyway - probably still is). Does the job of logging on, identifying and deleting spam for you before you download. You can set it to automatically check every x minutes so you only need to look at your email when it thinks there is something worth looking at. Also it learns - I very very rarely get false positives or negatives.

Here's a simple way to filter out spam. It utilises the fact the googlemail has pretty good spam filters.

1. redirect all mail from your orange account to a gmail account: you can usually set this up on the webmail settings page.

2. download your filtered email from the gmail account using a regular email client such as Outlook Express

If you need an invite to gmail then go to www.gmail.com and log in with the following details:

username: temporarytommo
password: ukgser

Send yourself an invite (see the box, bottom left)

There are 50 invites in that account which anyone can grab.

Thanks again guys I will go for one of these it seems to be the only way forward. Will keep you posted.
