Hi all, i have got Sony earphones that i wear for work and on the bike. But the wire is bugger so i need some new ones. Not really wanting to pay another 30 quid i was looking for something different.
I remember seeing a post on here ages ago, someone said that they used the yellow foam jobbies with a hole melted in the middle with a hot wire. But i cant remmber what make of headphone he was using them with. I have had a search but can find nothing. All suggestions aprecianted... Mark :0)

???

Have just read my own post... God my typing is shite!!! LOL

But getting back to the headphones......

Can anyone help me here? Work is far too noisy without some sounds to make the day go faster. Mark :0)

I presume you are using the Sony MDR-EX71 headphones which cost about £30. I've got some (the EX70 model) as well and, after a couple of years pretty constant use, they also have developed a fault and one side is not working. Looking around there is a less expensive model, the MDR-EX51LP, which actually seem to be similar to the EX70 model that came before the EX71 and does not have the extension wire arangement. However the EX51 seems not to be stocked in the UK and the only place they seem available is on ebay. They should be less expensive than the EX71s and might be worth a look.

Cheers mate, that was the post i remember reading a while ago.... Thanks a lot i will have a look to see if i can get some of these headphines. How long does a foam insert last for you? Mark :0)

Depends on how much I use them, Mark..... They last as long as a pair of plugs normally do & I buy packs of 26prs at a time so they're cheap enough to throw away without being upset.

The plugs cost me about £16 from CPC/Farnell as they're based here in Preston. You can get them on t'internet thingy.....

Hadnt seen Paul's post but by coincidence I have just done exactly the same thing....replaced the foam covers that came with my Koss The Plug phones with dispoasble foam ear plugs.

The plugs squidge in to yer ears better and also allow the backs of the phones to sit closer to yer ears meaning less helmet pressure. Which is nice.

They also seem to even give sligtly better bass response like this.

If you want Koss phones you can get em here -

I did, and when they bust after 11 months they sent me a spanky new pair
