I have invested in some proper moulded ear plugs, having used foam for too many years

In the past I have just used all manner of cheap ones, which either hurt your ears or were just plain ineffective at speeds over 70mph

In turn this has caused a small amount of Tinnitus in both ears

However I was talking to Micky (of this UKGSER parish) and he suggested that I tried some proper ear plugs and get some custom made.

So I bit the bullet and invested the time and money to go over to him and get them sorted

Taking the mould was easy and pain free and he delivered them to me in next couple of days, complete with filters, just in time for my recent German trip in early May

So after a bit of trepidation.....................I popped them in and they fitted perfectly

Bingo....................all the previous poor fit and pain of foam ear plugs was truly surpassed

On the bike......................everything was quiet and no more wind noise, whilst the filters allowed me to hear the engine. I don't use any music whilst on the bike or intercom, but no doubt the filters will allow this to work well.

Riding experience was excellent

Micky makes everything in his workshop and so you get the perfect set set of earplugs, in whatever colour or spec you need

If you need his services, he is based in South Yorkshire and he does an 'Earplug Service' at Rainbow BMW in Rotherham on the first Saturday of each month or Micky can be contacted here

Thanks JB ... thanks guys :thumb

10% discount to registered UKGSer Tossers

As JB says, I spend a Saturday a month at Rainbow but not always the first Saturday. Next visit always up on the wall at Rainbow or you can ring, e-mail or pm me for when there next, or you can visit my home at Doncaster.

If interested please get in touch ... I'm out of the country for a few months with Sue (Gracie on here) 1st August, riding overland to India ;)

Thanks again :beerjug:

Crikey that bloke from Ultimate doesn't know when to shut up :augie
Aye I wasn't expecting quite such a long reply from him. :D

Seems to have done the trick with 'Splat' though :D
To be fair, Splat makes some valid points, possibly. Without further research and experimentation its hard to tell accurately.

The simple fact of it is tho without protection you will go deaf.
Any protection is better than no protection, and if custom ear plugs mean you are more likely to wear them than disposables, then they are definitely the way to go.

Micky, what would be the turnaround time for a set with monitors?

JoeC have a look here

It's not my 'speak' but that of EarInc in America where I source all my materials.

The filters allow you to hear normal conversation, or music from your helmet speakers, yet filter out the dangerous levels.

KMD I normally keep the Monitors in stock, so turn around is only a couple of days of fitting you up, so to speak! The Monitors are the air tube type and so won't have the level of clarity that in ear speakers would have, but nevertheless it's very good indeed.

Jim Brown was providing these OTS Monitors for three years before I took over. In dozens of sets sold we have not had one complaint or faulty item reported.

Hope this helps folks

Dunno if those links work, but full details on website www.customearplugs.co.uk

That thread was just boring :rob

Did you get my order ok Judge, can't wait, well I can, but the giver of grief can't :augie

Well it held your interest long enough to reply, now feck off :pullface

PS ... are you the organ grinder or the monkey

I've always used Doc Proplugs on my bike. I bought them years ago for music use and they work out great on the bike. I often get people asking if they're custom fitted because they look it (transparent and very subtle once they're in). You get a choice of sizes and whether they're vented or not.

The only problem is the music shop I bought them at (Andertons in Guildford) no longer stock them and I can't find anywhere else that does! (apart from online)

After sending my impressions off just one week ago my nice new UEP87s arrived yesterday.
A great excuse for a Wednesday night spin to Loomies try them out.
They fit perfect and are much quieter than my old set.
And all with a one week turnaround so I could have them for my Trip to Norway in a fortnight's time.
Very impressed.:thumb2

Thanks for the help Andy. :)

Glad to have been of service - thanks for the positive feedback Adam :aidan

Those prices don't include the impression taking which if you don't have moulds will add somewhere between £10 & £25 :rob

They didn't on the UE site/phone either mate. I paid UE £120 for two sets of plugs to be made and £20 each for the impressions to be taken at one of their approved agents in Pompey.

Not quite so - the price on the UE site does include Ultimate taking the impression, had one of our own staff taken the impression no additional charge, similarly if you'd visited our office or a show we were attending impressions are included in the price.

The additional fee applies where an independent agent is used and they want their bit and our staff make the arrangements on your behalf.

All my consultancy FOC as well :D

Blueplug doesn't include any impression taking anywhere in its quoted price.
