What should i be looking at on a 04 1200 are there any issue's peculiar to the earlier model ??? is abs servo hassle on these

Yes, get a non abs or later model without the servo's.
My 05 has had NO servo trouble. 1150s also have serve trouble.
I would check the final drive for roughness, and I'd also have a look at the FPC for corrosion.

issues, what issues??? My ABS does exactly what it says on the tin. If you sit at traffic lights with your foot or hand on the brake you can hear the servo working away, BUT if you keep the pressure constant then it does tend to go quiet.
I have tried my hardest to get the ABS to lock up on a bit of private land, and it really takes some doing. If I brake really hard on our nice shiny polished floor in the bike hangar then it does exactly what it says on the tin. As far as for final drive issues I believe there is a standard test where you grab hold of the wheel at 6 and 12 o clock and rock it to see if there is any movement. On mine there isnt. I tried the same at the 9 o clock and 3 o clock position and there still isnt any movement, apart from round and round, which im told wheels are supposed to do.......
I'll get my coat......... again.

If servo or abs goes awol can they be bypassed on these or is it terminal and big bucks

it can on the 1150s so i see no reason why not on a 12

30k on mine and not wantin to tempt fate but it's going strong with no corrosion issues.

Thanks for all reply unfortunately deal has fallen through back to looking again now

39k miles and no problems with all the often mentioned faults ......abs works perfect , fpc never had a hick up , final drive still works ..fingers corossed .. ............some of the sensors and electrical contacts need looking after ..wd4o and .........you're fine
