ECU fault code - fuel related

Good evening all
I am a new GS owner having just purchased a 2007 bike with 30k miles.

I intend to do all my own servicing and have much mechanical knowledge to perform such tasks with.

My GS911 arrived today and to my dismay the ECU is showing a fault code-
10167 Output Stage to Electric Fuel Pump Faulty
The fault is only current during the first few seconds after engine start. When i clear it, it reappears once the engine is stopped and restarted again.

Any ideas what this means? Is it the FPC on its way out? Why only at start-up?

I have had the FPC off and cleaned. It looks in good condition and is the new black powder coated version.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Just out of interest, what happens if i bypass the FPC permenantly so that the fuel pump runs at 100% all the time when the engine is running?

This was the case with the 1150GS no?

Would it give any fault codes or cause any problems?

If the bike runs okay then the fuel pump is obviously working.

I would suspect that the code is spurious. Either the BMW ECU is badly programmed and seeing a fault where none exists or the GS-911 is mis-reading the data.

The self reporting diagnostics and your GS-911 tool are only as good as the software monkeys that coded them.

Have you checked the forum at Hexcode (GS-911 makers) to see if they know about this as a definite fault or spurious error message?

On another post on this site i have seen comments indicating it could be a faulty FPC. But then on another forum i have also read the FPC isnt connected to the CANbus so then how would it be throwing a fault code??

To repeat, it could be the GS911 seeing a fault code that is not there in reality.

If you have a faulty FPC then the bike won't run.

Does the bike run? If it does it ain't broke so why worry?

Very true, but my thinking is maybe FPC is not delivering 100% at engine start during the cold start map.

I do worry cos i dont want to become stranded

Further to my last posting, i have searched on the GS911 forums and folks on there have confirmed the fault code disapears after fitting a new FPC.

A result me thinks! Atleast now i know i am on borrowed time.

Your right the FPC isnt connected to the CANbus but it is connected to the ECU. CAN is just a communications network like a LAN for computers. Your instruments, ZF unit and main ECU are connected by CAN and thats about it. Its a phone network for automotive computers.
