Edinburgh Harley Davidson closing

I've read the email re them ending their Kawa franchise and it doesn't actually say they're closing but I suppose that's the implication.

I wonder what the impact will be on Thunder in the Glens as they are, as far as I know, the main sponsor.

Maybe West Coast will step in. Hope someone keeps supporting it.

Just been through the accounts of the parent company.. sound, well run business it seems - profitable.

Looks like Harley are making things difficult- and the parent co cannot support a loss leader.

Hmm. In the latest CH group statement up to Dec '23 - significant profit drop 2022-23. Comments around increase in cost-of-labour (in 2023 so before latest increases) and cash flow forecasts indicating "severe but plausible downsides" so perhaps a bit of consolidation and cutting out less well performing bits of the group? They seem to have history on this - eg getting out of the MB truck maintenance business. Perhaps the startup costs of 4 new car dealerships has also continued to bite them and as you say if HD are being a bit difficult, or the sales figures aren't good, then they look like they're taking action to support the group. The 2024 accounts would be interesting to see.

More proof if it was needed that not only are motorcycles are an expensive toy but with the way the economy is headed and not forgetting the ever shrinking demographic of motorcyclists , I can only see it getting worse for franchised dealers as people tighten their belts and oldies start to downsize away from their £20,000 plus toys

EHD are part of an £800m T/O dealership group - these guys bought in during the good times and bale out when it gets tougher - p&l decision making

More to follow …..

Selling legacy brand motorcycles to an ever ageing demographic is UNSUSTAINABLE

Move over and let the Chinese brands in ….& dominate

Just added them up (sad like that) 14 dealers left in UK including Belfast

I'll await a Chinese Harley & Indian

Hopefully more revenue driven into remaining dealers will help them survive

My RKS was built in Thailand…. That’s close enough

Shame about Edinburgh HD, got my Street Bob from them and I have to say the best Harley buying experience I have had over the last 20 years. The staff seem like great guys who care about what they do, making it a real "destination" dealership, so hope they get settled in alternative employment.

They’re owned by Eastern Western Group in Edinburgh with supposedly quite deep pockets. If they fold their HD franchise, God help the rest of them. I bought my Fatboy there 🤔
