Eiish she is Broken!!

asseblief yulle ouens ! gee wis guys, stop dropping the bike in the haterbeesfontein dam there ! ...LOL...ex SA here in UK . I believe its hell of a hot there, 40ish degrees. Not much above 5-8 here .Lucky -although, sad to see the smashed piston !

maybe one broke off & got stuck under the other, which then got belted off by the piston.

feck knows.

Has a full Remus pipe on it and the rest was stock.

IIRC the Remus system is supposed to give a leaner mixture than standard and leaner mixture = hotter. Wonder if that could be the cause? Your views most appreciated - especially as I'm thinking of going down that route myself...

Exhaust ports don't show lean burn ??.......:nenau

a bit of a knocking sound eh.

me thinks that would have sounded pretty horid when it went. I recon it's either one of two things. either miss set exhaust valves ie far to tight or the locknuts come undun and the ajuster has rotated round causing the clearance to close, (anyone know what the clearance beween piston and valve is when its hot?) or it's been overreved. Mind you i've just noticed your in Jo Berg whats fuel quality like down there, do you buy it from a main suplier ie Shell/Esso etc or from an independant, just thinking if it's the latter and he's brewing his own or buying from dodgy suppliers that could do no end of badness to your motor. The pipe thing I don't think is an issue, the lambda senser is there to stop it running very lean and unless your blasting around Table Mountain i can't see it running that lean.
If you could send me a valve stem i'll get it looked at by our lab here and they will tell me what caused the problem. PM me for my address if your interested./

jhb is 1700m above sea level, but i still don't think it was running ltoo lean because of the pipe.
i put my R5 on a camchain/sprocket problem causing the valves to hit the piston during a spirited run chasing superbikes.:D

Fuel quality is OK we don,t really have "independant,s" its State controlled, Shropshire eh, I am a Welshpool boy originally.

Morning Toucan, do you know something I don,t?

Welsh

One of the guys had a loss of power followed by a rumbling, then it stopped!!!! The 1200 is a year old with about 15,000 miles on it.

Now term "eish!" will be wasted on most poms, but really 'FOK' would be more appropriate! Please BMW SA are covering this fruit salad.

Altitude will make it run rich, less O2 means more fuel than needed, you fit smaller needles on carbs at high altitude. Anyway the EMS would compensate.

Better to go the other way and artificially increase the air density. Supercharger anyone?
