PD's been sat waiting for the cabs to be cleaned and overhauld, got them back on today and went to start the bike.

Initally it turned over but didn't start.
Tried again but failed to turn the starter.
Tried again dash lights went out and didn't come back on.

Dash lights now not coming on at all.

Battery looks good at 12.5 v.
Earths good, gearbox and the by the ignition unit.

Checked the fuses with a meter and good continuity.

I haven't touched anything electical during the service so I'm stumped as to what it can be.

I've recently (last month) fited a repacement starter due to a valeo eating itself. Iv'e used the bike since without issue.

P'S took the plugs out to reduce load on the starter but still no movement.

The only sign of electrical life I can detect is with the ignition key turned on and moving the starter isolating switch from the open position to the off position one of the small black relays next to the starter relay buzzes then goes quiet.

Any thoughts

Hi check, the relays under the tank, take them out and clean the contacts, something similar happened to my Paralever and this is what it was

Thanks, I've done them once but I'll do it again just in case, cheers

Try to check the voltage across the battery when you actually try to start it, it should drop a bit to say 10-11 volts. If it drops to close to zero it could be the battery or starter motor (magnets fallen off and stalling the motor)

If the voltage doesn't drop then measure the voltage across the engine or frame to the positive terminal on the battery. If it drops lots when you try to start it then the connection from the negative terminal to the engine is suspect.

I think if the voltage drops to less than 9.6 volts whilst cranking the engine, that the battery is knackered.
Is it possible that the thin black cable that goes to the starter has come loose/ broken?
This carries power to the starter solenoid and also the whole ignition system. It comes via the kill switch I think.
I spent several hours on mine before I suused the problem!!!

Sorted.

Put the battery on charge over night, now up to about 13+V.

Hit the button and hear as short from the g/box earth.

Took it out good clean and sorted the problem.

I think it was a build of corrosion on the g/box lug as the lead was relatively clean.

Thanks for the advise guys.
