Whilst I've got my 1150GS stripped for refurb I've been looking at the electrical wiring and connectors.

Everything was working fine before the strip but looking at connectors there seems to be some corrosion inside many of them. Is there a clever way of cleaning the fine pins etc. or do I need to look at new connectors or even a new loom? Or should I ignore it and just plug everything back together on the basis that it was working fine before and will continue to do so?

What's the best stuff to treat the connectors with to keep corrosion at bay? WD40 seems to attract corrosion after a while when it's all dried out.

Thanks for the link Greg. Does that deal with corrosion? As you may have guessed I know nothing about auto electrics.:)

Most should clean up light corrosion. I use contact cleaner on the Optimate connector of my trail bike. The connector is exposed to all sorts of sh*t when I'm riding and does get a bit corroded.

Give it a go.

fill all your connectors afterward with vaseline. WD40 is an electrical inhibitor. Vaseline keeps them protected and actually assists conduction.

If the contact cleaner doesn't work straight off, just plug and unplug a few time to clean the contacts.

WD40 will also rot many types of loom covers as well as rubber so be careful where you spray it other than on the HT circuit.

Also BM connectors are usually better and more relable than many in my experience so a clean up is best.
