Hi all, 2020 1250, steering lock wouldn't lock yesterday after a ride, you can hear the motor pushing the locking pin out, then it just retracts again, moving the bars slightly doesn't help. I can get the pin to stay out if I force it against the stop to prevent it retracting but, it doesn't retract on the normal quick press of the ignition button, you have to hold the button as if you're locking the bike, presumably the bike thinks the steering isn't locked.
Anyone got a fix for this? Apart from buy a new locking mechanism, it's doesn't look like it comes apart but could be wrong.

I've only ever experienced this when the lock pin isn't aligned or on the one occasion I had the bars over to the right rather than the left as I was standing on the right side of the bike weirdly....

Something is telling the electronics there is resistance on the pin. Maybe the unit's toast perhaps too. Does a GS911 have any connection to the steering lock - if you have one?

Cheers, tried moving bars whilst over to the left, no difference. The pin is moving, just retracts immediately instead of staying out to lock. No GS911 unfortunately. Unit could indeed be toast, just getting some feedback from others who may have had issues before I go down the replacement route.

you've wiggled the bars I presume?

I'd give it a blast of WD40 and try again. If no joy, start removing parts to access it and see what the fault is. Alternatively, just forget about it as it's not going to secure your bike and stop someone stealing it.

I had similar or the same luckily it was under warranty nd they replaced the locking mechanism. Firsst though they said it was dirty on the pin so it was stticky . all I can suggest is make sure pin and hole are clean. Sorry cannot be of more help

I've tried contact cleaner on the pin, it's not easy to get to though, for obvious reasons. Removal of the unit requires drilling security screws out from underneath, which I'm more than capable of doing but I'm not throwing silly money at it. My old Multistrada electronic lock went the same way, I managed without it for 4 years, I would however liked to DIY fix it if it's possible.

You don’t wanna be sticking anything into a dirty hole.

As Resovoir states above, the same happened to me, it was under warranty so the dealer swapped it for a new one, no issues since. Sorry not much help

I
You could have a dirty hole :nenau
You could be right, but it's very difficult to see how dirty my hole is:oops:
Just popped in the shed to take another look and low and behold, the lock has decided to fix itself and work perfectly:nenau, perhaps the penetrating oil I sprayed in the vicinity yesterday worked its magic, who knows.
Could have been a bit of crap or damp, see how long it lasts.

The last time this happened to mine (a 1200) I sprayed it liberally with a silicone release spray and its been fine since. I wouldn't use standard WD40 as thats more likely to gum it up afterwards.
