Emergency call failure

This Emergency call Failure message has been popping on and off since August. I believed initially it may have been loss of signal as it happens at the same point on the way to work every day then goes off again about 3 miles later. Anyway I now start the bike and it comes on immediately and never goes off. It's a permanent fixture.

Is it possible to turn the SOS feature off altogether?

Can a dealer do it? Can it be done via Motoscan Ultimate?

It's a bit of a gimmick at the end of the day that just interrupts the please of riding.

It’s utter bollox, isn’t it !
My bro has this on his bike every time he rides it.Something to do with it can’t pick up the correct signal here and will clear itself when he takes the bike away.....You really couldn’t make up this shite !!

Been on my bike for a year and a half now, never seen a lost connection message. Never tested it, it probably isn't actually working at all

It might be coincidence, but the SOS on my 1250 GSA regularly failed, Dick Lovett and Bahnstormer both supposedly fixed it, they didn’t. On my 2020 RT it hasn’t failed, yet.

Same here. On my old commute to work, the GSA would have three “failures” at the same locations, there and back.

Same route on the RT, no probs at all. Go figure.

I’m a bit concerned that my bikes don’t have one.Is it safe to venture out ?

It came on mine as a pre-reg, wouldn't have optioned it on the bike
It went off a couple times randomly, whilst being ridden before 600 mile service
BMW tech couldn't explain why it had gone off, he could see it had gone off
Bike has fallen over once after the 600 mile service and it didn't activate
It does connect on demand as I pressed the button to ask them if it had activated, they said no, so I won't be relying on it
It showed an activation after the 6000 mile service outside dealers when I started it up. I cleared it and pissed off and 10 days later it has stayed off

I think it’s a solution to a problem that for most of us will never ever happen, but the consequence of having it is loads of error messages. Not a problem for me as I bought a basic GS Rallye without unwanted crap like an SOS button. Sorted.

At about 13.25 in, I’ve never seen it work, so quite interesting to see what happens.....

I had it on my previous GS and it was IMO a waste of time, normally bringing up the big orange warning square on the TFT just when I was concentrating on something else so I didn't spec it on this one. Instead I saved the money and downloaded what3words from the app store FOC. If I need to know where I am I'll use that, if I'm in unconcious a ditch in the middle of nowhere by the time BMW get the emergency services to me it'll probably be too late anyway.

Can it be removed or turned off? Dealers 40 miles away. Can you deactivate it by removing the SIM? Has it got a SIM? I personally think it's not particularly weather proof.

SOS button on my GSA LC turned out to be faulty and was replaced under warranty. Didn't really want sos feature on the bike but as it's fitted it should be working...

ORS bikes all had it on last year - this years don’t.
Switches fail with the slightest bit of dirt.
System fails to locate so errors.
My 1250 has done it 29 times since last September and been repaired twice.
Once was switch, second internal electronics

Opted out of SOS button and Keyless on my 1250RT waste of time and bound to give problems, which they do, regularly

Mine lost the signal a few times on a Scottish tour, but no warnings appeared on the TFT.

Found out when I connected the GS911 to the bike.

Might save your life , once . Out riding alone , crash , injured , signal and response sent .
I personally find it reassuring, mine does occasionally loose connection but not often but I ride all over the mountains and coast roads so I would expect more issues but have had few .
Normally for some reason when in built up areas . Not a gimmick , a possible life line .
