Empty bolt holes

Hi,
Was washing my bike this morning and noticed 2 empty bolt holes at the front just above cylinder casing. Anyone know what they are for?

I think there are crash bar fixing points.
I don't have them holes on mine, but i do have crashbars.

So in a relatively low speed crash where it goes down on the side it could damage engine casing - hope I don't get to find out!

Safe to say, these bars would have had to undergone stringent tests before being approved for the market or law suits would put them out of business real quick.
