Hi guys having covered a few hundred miles on my newly acquired 1200 GS 09
I have come to the conclusion the bike does not feel quite right. It feels rough and a bit twitchy at low speeds and feels lean.
I guess its a BMW attempt at satisfying emissions.
So does fitting an aftermarket can and free flow filter help or will this just produce noise..:augie or....
I wonderd if anyone has fitted a power commander to this bike here and if so did it cure the problem and is it worth doing?

All and end can will do is cost you money and increase the noise as it has not effect on power. K&N will be a waste of money in a standard bike IMHO. Decatted headers really help or the PC5 will cure the fuelling nicely:thumb

Fitting a can and/or a free-low airfilter would ony serve to make it run leaner.

I might know a man who has an as-new, never fitted Power Commander III....:augie

Get one of them widgets that corrects the temperature sensor... Worked wonders on my 09, smoothing out the low revs response... Someone will come along in a minute and say what they're really called:comfort

Accelerator module. Fitted one2 weeks ago, very easy to install, fantastic results. Must have.

+1 and may cure the stalling issue some have whilst slowing and changing down.

Get an accelarator module for it, cost about £45 and worked wonders with my bike. Also fitted in 15 mins got to be worth a try before spending a shed load on a PC III and a dyno session. As some one has already said your original idea will make the bike leaner in theory but an end can defo worth it for the improved exhaust note and losing about 3 kg in wieght!

Thanks looks like power comander 5 or the maybe a accelarator module ? whatever that is..? sensor resistor....maybe

So whats your the price schtum...

Mine is a PCIII USB, not a PC V but Dynojet assure me that it'll fit a 2009 GS and suggested some maps.

It's new in box, never fitted. Retail is now £319.20 from Dynojet UK.

I'd consider offers.

Surely the ECU determines how lean the bike runs, not an end can & free flow air filter. Removing the Cat always helps, as these strangle the engine and cost a fair few bhp.

I don't think spending £320 plus dyno time is going to give you what your looking for the GS is not a sport bike its a lumpy (ish) twin! You might smooth it a little but its not going to be a turbine at any revs. I suppose it depends how much money is burning a hole in your pocket? The PC will smooth out the lift from low revs and give a few more hp but thats all. The accelarator will smooth out the lift of of low to medium revs but you won't get any more power... but it only costs £40.

It's not as simple as that. We've done this lots of times before. Do a search and no doubt, all will be revealed.

Are you more used to 4 cyl bikes??

Well no Miff :

these are a few of my rides...the 850r was very smooth as was the falco.

The GS just seems a bit rough down low it feels too lean.

If you buy a PC3, prior to fitting be sure to wrap all electrical leads/plugs on its loom with some self-amalgamating tape.

When fitting, pack all the various connectors with silicon grease of vaseline to keep out water, then cover with another layer of tape.

Mates bike ran like shit in heavy rain, the TPS connector on the PC3 was totally unsealed against the elements. Got a PC3 sat in my garage, never bothered to fit it after a mates palaver with them.

IMVHO be very careful vince, accidently running lean can cause some serious damage...............
