Hello everyone, as you can see this is the first post from a 1200GS virgin, until Thursday that is,when i pick up my new bike from Rainbow Motorcycles in Rotherham. I can't wait after having a brilliant test ride, I came back with a huge smile on my face. What a bike !!!!

Anyway just want some advice on end cans for the GS. I was going to order a Staintune can from Woody's as I have had them before and they are very well made, look and sound good. I notice from this forum that everyone tends to go for the Remus. Is there any particular reason ? Also what is the difference, apart from the price, in the end can and the full system, is it worth the extra money. I don't think Staintune do a full system. I will also be fitting a K&N filter.

Your help would be greatly appreciated folks.

Thanks, A temporary GS Virgin :)

Scroll down half a page for a Remus discussion with some pics.

The end can only fitted with baffle in makes a bit more noise and you may think it looks nicer but thats it. Baffle out makes a bit more noise again thats all.

Fit the header pipes and a K&N filter and you get a real boost in power and noise levels with the baffle in. No problems with fuel/air mix either. Dyno run done.

I have a set of Acrapovics on mine and the look and sound great, break the mould do something different mate.

Hi Ged

Welcome to the world of the Tosser and hope you enjoy Thursday when you collect the new bike.

I personally believe that you see more Remus on the GS as they were the first company to really produce a can for the bike and maybe more importantly the Y piece for removing te cat on the 1150 (possibly 100 as well but I'm not an expert). Most dealers sold the Remus can and as the choice is limited still it seems to still be the most "popular" choice.

From memory the following companies are all that make cans for the 1200 (apart from some German makes I've never heard of but seen on EBAY)

Remus
Laser
BOS
Sebring
Staintune
Akrapovic

Out of the above only Remus, Laser and Bos make seperate front pipes to remoe the cat, Akra make front pipes but it's part of their full system including the twin shotgun cans.

Iv'e personally fitted the front Remus pipes to ditch the cat and also used a Laser, Remus and the stock can with them. The point here is that you are not limited to using an Akra full system if you want to lose the cat, you can use a Remus (possibly Bos or Laser as well) front pipe and mate it to another manufacturers can.

I returned to using the stock can as I found the bike just too noisy with the cat free pipes in combination with an aftermarket can. The stock can and front pipes sound fruity enough yet don't intrude especially on long runs.

Happy shopping, it's only the beginning believe me :D

Hi and welcome to the site :beerjug:

Not that I'm biased ;) but this is all you'll ever need.

The complete system gives a good boost to both midrange and top end power (a lot of this is due to the fatter than stock headers used) plus 'almost' gets rid off the 5000rpm flat spot.

If you run a 'search' on this site for the various makes of pipe mentioned earlier you should come up with loads of info.

Enjoy your new bike!
