End of season SALE deals on the 1190 Adventure?

It's still a form of discounting. However, you are correct in that BMW are the masters of not giving their customers a break. :D :green gri

Whatever you say BMW outperforms all the others in the sales & marketing stakes, the bikes are popular & the customer is rewarded with a decent residual at the end

Davy

I bet BMW sell 10 GS 's for every 1190 that KTM uk sell

Tells you something, don't it :)

No denying, except the days of decent residuals are gone. At least that is my personal experience when I went to trade my GS in at the same dealer who gushed crap about residuals to me when buying.

You need a lesson from Nutty then - he's the grand master

First off, this new discount does not seem to be a campaign, I do not see it being advertised by other dealers. Secondly, you can always buy bikes cheaper in the autumn than the spring so no real surprise.

I just came within a gnats whisker of buying an 1190, and in the end bought a toilet. I am still not convinced I made the right decision. Had Colwyn Bay KTM been open on Sundays and I not seen an eight week old BMW WC at a big reduction off list on that day, it probably would have gone the other way. Cost to change did come into it. Both the toilet and the KTM have their faults, and as a prospective buyer it was hard to gauge if I could live with either. The agricultural gearchange of the WC and troublesome switchgear or the assorted small issues reported with the KTM. Getting as small as possible "cost to change" matters for me, as it means I am not stuck too long with a lemon.

Anyway, the WC has been far better than I expected, it does go and handle brilliantly, even not too bad at light off roading. But I could not just jump on the BMW and thrash it like I did the 1190 on the test ride. That KTM is something special.

When it comes to residuals, I can't say that the GS I traded in for the new WC was a shining example of retained value.

So, to summarise..........................

If you intend keeping a bike a while and/or don't give a stuff about residuals buy a new KTM.

If you want to get yourself an absolute bargain, buy yourself a low mileage, as new, one year old KTM.

Everyone's a winner :)

I'm a big boy and went into my purchase fully aware that my bike was gonna loose a fair amount the minute I walked out of the dealers let alone after one year and a few thousand miles, do I care? No.

But boy, am I glad I made the switch, for all the reasons so eloquently put by peeps such as Timolgra and Cookie.

Like I said in another post, I've got my biking mojo back, a mojo that had been crushed by the 'practicality' of MBW ownership and that is priceless - put into context the 1190 was/is a bargain :beerjug:

BMW wanted £8K to change my mint 2011 GSA for a 2014 model.

Just saying.

Y'know Andres, it's nice to know someone can read between the lines of the shite I write on here :)

Most folk have a bike just for fun, that fun can wain partly because people are too scared of taking a chance, loosing money with talk of residuals etc. I've spoken to others who've at times lost their biking mojo but something inside them also can't let go of that 'practicality' as you say.
They've lost the buzz with no one to blame but themselves:blast

That 'bargain' you've bought isn't only measured in £££££

A wise (admittedly wealthy) man once told me, you'll remember the value long after you've forgotten the price :beerjug:

"everyone dies. not everyone lives"

some ride BMWs for ever :P

they're all tucked away in cupboards under the stairs counting their pennies.

...by candle light probably :D

Free accessories?

So do KTM

So do Triumph

So do Honda

However BMW never drop the RRP, in a publicised campaign like those 3 have done

That's the difference

R12 GS Rallye used, are the same price as they were new - 2 years later

You will never see that with a Cross Tourer, Explorer & 1190R

BMW Motorrad are the best in the business at marketing & profit engineering - unlike the others

First drop in sales/unsold stock & the others are slashing prices right, left & centre which canes the early buyer

Been there with Triumph in the past, never again

Is that true about the Rallye? I must start looking after mine a bit better:D

:D

I am in a real quandary! I'm sooooo tempted to go KTM. I have a 2013 WC that's been Remussed, hilltopped, quickshifted .... It's a good bike! Gearbox is a 'good one' and round the back lanes it is a good bike - back B road (sorted) boxer torque?? it's as quick if not quicker than an 1190.

(Suck teeth and scratch chin .......) .... But ..... Oh I don't know. There's heart, head, bank account, her indoors (do a lot two up ... ) ... a local KTM dealer about 15 minutes away ......

what to do, what to do ....... :P

Discounted 1190R with free (crap) luggage? Next years 1290 super adventure? Stay with what I've got for another 18 months at only £115 a month on my pcp deal .... ???

Aaaarrrgggghhhhhhhhh ......... :help

if i were you giles, i think i'd stick with the GS unless you have a real need for a change, and it is quite a different experience IMO.

the BMW is definitely the more complete package, but there is something special about the 1190 that the beemer doesn't have :green gri

If I won the lottery the GS would remain as my main bike, because I'm happy there's nothing that could tempt me away from it, so as good as your's maybe why the temptation?

Or are you getting into Nutty territory, looking for a quick happiness fix through change for the sake of it? :D

.....Or are you getting into Nutty territory, looking for a quick happiness fix through change for the sake of it? ......

PCP was a good deal for me. It's my hobby, I don't spend £100 a month on fags, gym membership, the local pub (I drink Gin at home instead :D) ..... so I'm happy to invest monthly in a nice bike until retirement pensions kick the balloon payment into touch. (about 7 years away).

But 'nice' has just the faintest taste of .... errrrrr ..... sterile / corporate / 'must look after' / 'need to hand it back' about it. And that feeling is stopping me bond with it a tad. Does that make sense?

I miss off roading !!!; http://www.ukgser.com/forums/showthread.php?300831-Big-bike-trails-Pyrenees&highlight=big+trails

That was a great trip! I loved it, and I'm itching to do more of the same. And in that trip, we were dragging the GSA under snow gates, spinning it round on its rocker cover etc etc. It was my bike and it felt great fecking about on it, speedway drifting it into base camp and promptly lowsiding it and crashing :D
There's something about my pristine GS that is just a bit too sterile. :nenau It's not mine and feel like I can't let my hair down on it.
Now obviously, If I went 1190R I'd transfer the PCP over to the ktm dealer, so I'd sort of still be stuck in the same boat. But there's something in me saying 'you'll love it more, you'll probably do the balloon thing straight away, you'll end up keeping it, you'll have more of a laugh, you'll go off roading again without a care, and you'll open the garage door and smile ..... '.

That's what I'm thinking Mellors ...... :D
