Had my 1200gsa out for a spin on sunday with a few lads.. bike was running well. Came home parked it, was late getting back so I just pulled in locked it up.

This afternoon I went out to fit a box and take it for a wash...

There's a heavy thumping noise from the engine and on tick over the oil warning light is flashing and a red triangle but it dies off if I rev the bike... also seems to be a clicking noise from the right hand cylinder as though it was blowing but I couldn't see any leaks.

It sounds serious...

Anyone have this fault...

What dies off?

The thumping, the light or the engine?

Take out the r/hand spark plug

Check for damage............it could have dropped a vlave, quite common on 1200's to drop a valve on r/hand cylinder

Was it first thing this morning, if the temp was in the minus then might be the oil is gloppy especially if you are still using 20/50 mineral. I had a similar problem with my 06 GSA. Changed the oil to 10/40 now no knocking or clicking on cold morning startups

It was later in the afternoon and temps were pretty ok. I thought it was just a bit cold too but it didn't go out when the temp came up :(

@ John A... wasn't wet when I was out and it seemed to be running a little rough but i thought it was just bevause I was riding it fairly hard...

Sounds like the cylinder valve might be the problem, but would that account for the heavy thumping in the engine twords the rear? There's only 2k on the thing, vertually a new bike :tears

Sound like you have something a little more serious

To be quite honest, I would just call BMW assist and have them recover it to you dealer. If you start messing around removing plugs and trying to diagnose the problem, BMW may turn round and say you caused the damage.

All the best

Bad luck, sounds fairly shagged. As above, this is a BMW job.

Most definately the way to go....... chill out and have a glass of port whilst they are on there way, tis the season to be merry:thumb
