Just got back from having my 2008 GSA remapped at Hilltop and couldn't be more pleased with the acceleration & real world torque. The bike just feels so much more lively.
However I have also noticed that the engine braking is slightly reduced or is it just in my head?
The bike has Akrapovic exhaust (no baffle) & decat (first time used today).
My question is does any one else run this configuration & have they noticed reduced engine braking? Would putting the baffle in help?
I intend to give Jeff a ring tomorrow, but would be interested if any similar experience.
With regard to the remap, I would recommend it just from my ride back home :thumb

I have same year, bike and configuration including remap. Can't say I noticed a change in the engine braking myself but the bike was so different than before I wasn't really thinking about slowing down!

Engine braking to a large degree can be mapped in or out of an engine , I know that EBR offer the choice and a lot of racers prefer to have it mapped out. I guess it's all down to the fuel you give the engine under a closed throttle.

Off up to Geoff tomorrow for a remap, looking forward to the results!:bounce1

Think you will like the remap, the cafe down the road is worth a breakie. & brew.
I found Geoff a very amiable and genuine person - although just keep an eye on your bike if u park it outside the cafe as he stops in his car v fast & v close to your bike outside for his breakie, saying "bet you thought I was going to hit your bike, don't worry I might drop it on the dyno later though!" :D:D:

I had mine done recently and I'm sure that the there has been a reduction in engine braking. Caught me out the first few times after leaving his place as I use it quite a bit approaching corners and traffic lights.

But shifting seems to have become much smoother and no more hesitation starting off from 1st.

Not sure what to do.

Forgot to add - 08 GSA too.

Prob no help as mine is a 2010 tc but no noticable reduction in engine braking, it would be unusual to map it out as it would mean opening the throttle slightly and supllying fuel from the injectors (normally shut during over run) Are you sure it is not the effect that you are actually going quicker as after remap it is much easier to cruise at 90- 100 (KMH of course) so maybe you are entering corners and junctions quicker than you used to

I phoned Geoff a week or so after the remap & he did confirm my suspicion, it has lost some engine breaking, apparently point something of a second, he said I'm the first person to have noticed.
If I'm honest I do miss the point something of a second & find I'm using the rear brake a tad more just to settle the bike. I have also had to adapt my gear selection for certain bends as there is definitely more grunt lower down the rev range where previously the grunt only kicked in at 6000 rpm.
Would I still have it remapped? Hell yeah !!!

Is it an actual reduction in braking or is it that the on/off nature of the fuel injection on closing throttle - has been smoothed.

Fitting a PowerCommander 3 to my R1100s took away the on/off characteristic, but the engine braking remains.

Al

I would describe the engine breaking prior to the remap as more raw & slightly more sudden, after the remap there is still engine breaking but it doesn't feel as urgent. I would agree that the on/off nature of the fuel injection on closing throttle - has been smoothed.
