Engine change?

Might be cheaper, but to get that lump looking tidy would take some time and much elbow grease, was it dredged out of the North Sea, or do they all do that, Sir?

Cillit Bang, and crevis brushes, scrape off the crinkled paint etch prime and paint, powder coat any removable covers and it will look a million dollars.

The engine I put in was corroded like this, from an 08, it was quite bad, the barrels and heads were great the crankcases fucked,my 05 with nearly 100k on it was much better and that was never cleaned and ridden in everything.
Bugger to prep but doable,

be cheaper to drop one of these in it.
cant seem to load the photo i want, but its a twin cam

What paint did you use for that?

Not putting another lump in but doing the valves etc. The excellent Mr Scrimminger will work his magic and she'll be good for another 100k at least. Whilst it's in bits, she'll get a good spruce up although considering the hammer she's had over the years, she's not too bad and I've seen a lot worse!!

Its just standard car solvent based 2k, its a semi gloss they use for wheels.

I took the front cover of and had it blasted, that is pock marked badly, was gona powder coat it but couldnt be bothered.

As Bendy sez acid etch primer and then lash it on, wet on wet is the term they use.

Oh and before any comments about heat, just think how hot car bodywork gets in the sun.

My 0& suffered badly and my brothers has not fared well since it's not had a heated garage. Biostrip the cover then round off all sharp edges, mask off oil seal and (if fitted) bearing faces and spray it inside and out. Fill any nasty pock marks.
Powder won't fill corrosion marks unless very costly fillers are used (eg Lab Metal). Even that can give variable results.

Painting it all over avoids corrosion getting under the paint at joint faces. Use a good quality sealant like Loctite 518 to be sure the oil galleries are sealed.
