Friend of mind went to the Staffordshire bike show last week, on one of the many stalls he watched a demo of a small machine which he thinks was a mini vapor/ stem cleaner. The guys doing the demo was cleaning inside the cooling fins on an old motorcycle head he said they came up like new.

Unfortunately he didn't stay long enough to get the details the item and he thinks it's fairly new on the market, any one come across any thing like this.???:nenau

I didn't see that :nenau we got there quite late on Sunday so missed a lot of things.

Sounds good though.

wouldn't these steam things be too hot to use on anything except bare metal ?

I would also be worried about localised expansion of metal possibly causing problems later in the bikes life

A chap called Tatters (From London) posted a picture on Advrider yesterday showing pictures of his 100PD engine taken with a Thermal imaging camera. The original post is here http://www.advrider.com/forums/showpost.php?p=9778023&postcount=1

I don't think a steam cleaners going to come anywhere near the variations in temperature that the engine puts up with on a daily basis.

I don't know if he's a member here, hopefully he won't mind me posting his picture.

Don't know if I should admit it but I've had a steam cleaner for about 5 years and never thought of using it on the bike :blast

Will put that to rights asap, as far as the cleaner goes they make light work of grease and dirt in the kitchen so no reason why an engine would be any different. :thumb

interesting crash bars:augie

Just been to dig our thermal imaging camera out.

I'll see if I can get some Airhead related pictures. I'm quite curious how well the oil cooler works on my PD.

This is my technician.

I haven't got a steam cleaner, but I have got a wallpaper stripper, so being a Yorkshireman and hence a tightwad, I thought I'd give it a go.:augie

You know the type of thing, glorified kettle, with a car type radiator cap.
I used it just with a flexible hose.

Did a brilliant job on a 37 year old Honda engine, as luck would have it, already out of the frame for rebuild.

Treated the engine first to some degreaser, then steamed it, working it together with a paint brush. No mess, engine sat in a tray, used very little water.

Would never have though of using it before I read the thread.

Thanks for the tip
