Engine cleaning.....

Been following various threads on the subject of cleaning agents for engine cases. Tried the 1st below link by Rob (no nonsense metal cleaner) but B & Q no longer stock it. Then I came across the 2nd link about T Euro alloy cleaner (Rob again) and looks like the same photo.....confused (doesn't take much I know ) now as to which agent he used

I've used both cleaners on that and other engines. They are both phosphoric acid based cleaners. You do need to be very careful about washing down afterwards. The best thing to do is wash the cases down with an alkaline based cleaner afterwards to neutralise.

I've never tried it but apparently coca cola also contains phosphoric acid and cleans engines well.

Ah....thanks for that.

Just bought another PD to do a trip on to Spain this year. I'm in the process of cleaning all he muck off so I can see what lies beneath so I can do some work on it as it needs a bit of TLC/fettling all round

To be honest after trying a few phosphoric based cleaners out they all seem to work just as well. just watch the concentration levels on some of them.

spray on loads of APC (all purpose cleaner) leave for 30 mins and then wash off, that should shift "most" stuff.
