Hi all got the bike out this morning for a nice Bank holiday run! Bike started no problem and got it to the top of the drive after the engine had been running for about fifteen seconds it started to lose tick over then cut out. And that’s it wont start so back in the garage well p off. I have half a tank of petrol and the bike was last used on Wednesday. Can any one give a bit of advice please?

Thanks Mark

I'm no mechanic, but this happened on my work R1200RT, it was the fuel pump relay, apparantly the 15 seconds of running and then for it to cut out is very common with this fault.

As I say I'm no expert but that is exactly what mine did.

as the man says sounds just like fuel starvation as the engine is dying gradually, either fuel pump side or a breather issue?

Has it started again after it failed of is permenantly dead?

As the man said, does the engine turn over on the starter? If it turns but does not fire then stick your head close to the front LH side of the tank and turn the ignition on. You should hear the fuel pump running for about 5 sec as it pumps up the fuel lines up to working pressure and then cuts out. If no noise it's probable the FPC has failed.

If you do a search in the forum you'll find ways of temporarily by-passing the FPC which could allow you to diagnose the problem

got it going again

Hi thanks for the help. I by-passed the FPC so there was a permanent live going to the fuel pump. This sort the problem out. Next question how do I stop water getting back in to the electrics and fu g the new one up. Also a big thank you for the help from Andy Stockley of Benham of Wolverhampton to.

Sorry for being thick, but I have a similar problem.
What and where is the Fuel Pump Controller (FPC)?

The conroller sits under ventilated cover on the top left of the fuel tank. You can see it if you look down behind the left tank side panel. It regulates the fuel supply to save on fuel pump wear and tear. Unfortunatley when it fails it stops supplying any fuel. Have a look at the sticky at the top of the page or have a look in the Font Of All Wisdom for a work around. Linky to the FOAW post. Its a good get out of Jail, if your away, not sure i'd want to break into the wiring if i was at home.
