On the way back from work yesterday, on the A12, the engine on my Adventure cut out. I was in the fast lane doing aboout 50 mph in quite busy traffic.

The bike started loosing speed quite quickly so I started to move over to the left to pull over when the back wheel locked for a fraction of a second. I was lucky that the guy behind me swerved in time otherwise he would have gone into my back. The engine started again and it was OK afterwards so I carried on. (Thinking back I think I might have pulled the clutch in to keep the speed up and then when I tried to put my flashes on I released it and that might have locked the wheel and re-started the engine?)

This is not the first time this has happened. It's happened twice before but always at low speed as I was approaching traffic lights. The bike wouldn't start again afterwards without the choke. I mentioned this to the dealer at the last service and they said they couldn't find anything wrong with the fuelling but readjusted the idle speed. After yesterday's experience I think this is becoming dangerous and it makes me nervous that it can happen anytime now.

I was wondering if anybody has experienced a similar problem and what the cause might be.

Thanks,
DD

I may be completely ignorant on this one but what the hell, why is there a choke on the bike? I've never owned a fuel injected bike but I thought fuel injection did away with chokes?

It's not a choke. It just opens the throttle a little to aid starting when cold.
