Had a serious problem couple of days back...

Without warning, in the middle of a ride, the engine simply cut-out. Since then, it does start but only works for about 10sec and cuts-out again (in fact the longer bike is left alone the longer it will work, but never for more than say 20sec). To me, it looks like fuel starvation which then points to a FPC failure. However, the FPC itself looks clean and rust-free (as I understand rust and dirt on its fins are prime cause of failure). Moreover, on ignition normal buzz sound of pump priming is heard and the bike electronics reports no failure. I don't want to take the bike for a service until I've got at least a vague idea what might be the problem.

At the moment I'm considering three possibilities:

1) Pump/FPC failure - what is the definitive way to prove/disprove this? How to pin-point the problem as either pump or FPC?

2) Spark plugs - will replace them all, but don't think they are the culprits as the failure was sudden and bike did not show any signs of deteriorating performance beforehand

3) Some sort of electronics failure - have no way to test this on my own but display and warning lights all look normal.

I would appreciate any new ideas and/or comments...

I've not had a FPC fail yet, but as I understand it, water can get inside and cause a failure. So it might look fine on the outside, but be bad on the inside. I bought a spare and carry it with me, just in case.

FPC failed after all

Tnx for the hint

Mystery is solved - after improvising a bypass cable using some spare clips and wires it turned out that the problem had been a failed FPC after all.

I've found that James Sherlock sell them for £89.52. However, I presume this is a part meant for newer bikes (mine is 2005) and wonder would it fit older models?
