Before I dive in again with the spanners, I need the Wisdom of the tossers. When the engine is hot I have a rattle comming from the g/box area that dissapears when I pull the clutch in. Any ideas? Its a parallever R80/100. Millage unknown but probably 80,000 kilometers.

Its baggyness in the gearbox you are taking up when pulling in the clutch.
Its nothing to worry about. They all do it, honestly.
It sounds worse when hot because the thinner oil is having slightly less effect on "damping" the noise down.

Thanks for the info. I dropped in the local BMW dealer and the mechanic told me he was 8 years old when my bike was made and I should come back later in the week when the older guys were on shift. Cheeky Bast.

My GS has a rattle the same as you describe. I have found it to be the bearing in the clutch relese plunger on the back of the gear box underneeth the arm. I have been poo pooed by a few on here when I call it the clutch relese bearing lol.

Do you mean the bearing shown as part 3 in the below diagram?

Were you able to buy a replacement bearing, or did you have to buy a combined piston & bearing assembly?

I was told it was the springs in the clutch that rattled when hot
I cant see that that little bearing could make the racket that my bikes make after there given a goood thrashing
Have you solved the rattle by swapping this bearing Bumpmuncher ??
hope so cos thats a easy job I would think :augie

Yes its the bearing in the plunger thingy. I have not replaced it but the noise went away when I removed the piston and came back when I put it back :thumb It is also I believe the only bearing that bob did not replace when he rebuilt the box :thumb2 It could possibly be that the push rod is worn at the other end and a bit rattly. As it still works though a bit noisey I have not replaced it yet :thumb
