I'm travelling south america on my 06 1200 GSA. Can't locate the engine number on the bike (which is required for customs clearance). Managed to get into Argentina ok but I'm concerned about the other borders

I was told it was on crank case in front of right hand side cylinder. There is a small vertical strip there but no number!! Am I looking in the right place?? I assume the number is stamped onto the metal - or is it on a small plate that might have got detached??

Please help me locate this with any clear instruction on where to look or even photo if possible

Thanks all

Brian

Hi Brian,
Just looked at my 11 plate GS (not sure if this is relevant) but the number is stamped on a small strip that is under the right side cylinder at about 4.30 on a clock face.

Dont know if this is of use,

Thanks

Thanks daffy - that's exactly where I've been looking and there is no number there!! And I know the bike is authentic. Just can't understand it - the area where the number is on yours is just smooth! Thanks for going to the bother of taking the pic

Thanks luke

Crossed the border into chile today and they didn't even look at the bike - just copied everything from the log book - so I was worrying needlessly. Extraordinary days riding to cross the border point high in the Andes. About 50k of heavily pitted gravel road, surrounded by snow capped mountains in temp of degrees! Very glad I'm on the GSA - think the duke would struggle here!! Petrol gauge is broken (from the freighting people emptying the tank I think) so riding on the trip! Other than that bike doing well and I'm realising the ride. Cheers Luke, talk soon B
