Engine Oil

No, not an oil debating thread, but where can I buy Castrol GP (Castrol ActEvo GP 4T) for my 1200GSA at a realistic price? So far, I can only find it at BMW Dealers for about 9 pounds a litre. I e-mailed Castrol but got no response.

Someone must retail 4L without breaking the bank or does everyone run standard 10-40 GTX?

Is there an alternative that BMW won't say affects the warranty?

oil

just got FULLY SYNTHETIC 10W-50 4LTR from HEIN GERICKE only £22

I just use Castrol 10-40 mineral oil available in loads of places, the manual says 10-40 is fine to use so I can't see the point in faffing around ordering hard to find 20-50 stuff

If the engine goes there's always the warranty!!

I thought you only had to stick to the 20/50 mineral stuff until 10k after which synthetic is ok ? I understood that the reason is to allow the bike to bed in a little which it won't do in 100k if you use synthetic.

I got Duckhams Q 20/50 (remember that anyone) mineral oil from my local car shop at not a lot a litre (no sorry I can't remember but it was a lot less than BMW).

Final thought. Does the oil use depend on how much you thrash it ? I didn't use any between 600 and 6k and again from 6k to about 7k. Then I had a bit of a thrash and the level in the sight glass went down a little.

Harley davidson dealers have a ready supply of good quality mineral 20/50, also full synthetic, can't remember how much they charge though.
I can supply Rock oil 20/50 semi synthetic to members who live in south lancs area (collect only)
1 x 4 litre carton £14.00 (£3.50 per litre)

I was in centre of London yesterday and needed a top up, called BMW Park Lane.......can you guess what they wanted for 1l of the Castrol 20/50 stuff..............

£13.89

I kid you not.

I didnt bother.......the irony would be if the engine blew they can pay for the replacement under warranty (Park Lane being owned by BMW(UK) Ltd).

Thieving buggers.......

I use 10w40 in my lawnmowers, but not in the GS, it's 28 deg down here, and it'll get warmer.

Remind me to move to the IOW :Motomartin

We're lucky to ever hit 25C up here!

Your lawnmower engine will probably be a tad more advanced than the GS's!
