Hi all, which is the best engine paint and etch primer?

I use Hamerite smooth silver (air-arsehole). If onto bare metal, use Hamerite special metals primer, brush on, wet 'n' dry smooth, then spray. Looks great if care has been taken in the preparation. Cheapest option. Two pack if your wealthy (hang on, if you have a BMW, you must be loaded)

The only loaded I am is when I am pished

if its for the front cover, take it off and get it blasted, etchd and primed and paint it properly

Lower cylinders and under the engine. I realise most gsers don't give a hoot but I do

I know the feeling re. being not loaded !
I painted my cylinder heads in the Hamerite smooth. Look grate.

I was thinking of doing this and getting it powder coated. Is it an easy enough job to do ?

It's one way but not the best, powder coat can be brittle, difficult to touch up and removing the timing chest can be problematic, have a look here for alternative done in situ http://www.ukgser.com/forums/showthr...corrosion-pics

I wouldn't use powder coat again. What worked well for me was vapour blast and two pack paint. But if you're on a budget, home made soda blast and smoothrite can give a really good finish. Once you start though ....

I used Hammerite smooth aerosol to do my 1100 heads 7 years ago. They still look absolutely fine.
