I stalled my 2009 GSA today, pulled out of a junction in the wrong gear!!! Bike restarted ok, but for the remaining 3 mile ride home the engine/exhaust sounded rough, kinda like a car firing on only 3 cylinders, with the exhaust sounding as if it was spluttering. Any suggestions please as to what might be wrong?

Coil failure?

Maybe lost adaptive values and needs a TPS reset?

Pride resistor failed, made worse by the car driver cursing behind you.

Have you tried clearing its throat, I guess the last couple of miles where in town at low speed and low revs!

The bike seemed to ride ok today, but still doesn't sound quite right, still sounding a little like a misfiring engine. On the dual carriageway I was able to work through the first 4 gears up to full range and it seemed to perform as normal. But when idling its still sounding a little rough. Im confused as to how this could be linked to me stalling the engine :nenau

I had a similar problem and it turned out to be one of the exhaust lamba sensors not working correctly.

Are you sure the two things are linked? It maybe that the misfire was a contributary factor in the cause of the stall and you just hadn't noticed it before.

My vote is a failing cool caused the stall and the thump finished it off.
Check exhaust headers temperatures swap primary coils left right and see if the hot header swaps sides.
Budget for 2 coils as they seem to fail in pairs.
Change lambda only when all coils are proven. Generally a sooty one is caused by a bad coil.

True, but I did pull out if the junction from stationary in third gear. So I'm blaming myself for the stall.

I honestly think it is the protest ecu reacting to being ridden like a wazzok (a term used for those pulling away in 3rd) and not immediately calling BMW assist.

Give it a clean whilst apologizing and promising never to do it again and that you will pay for a years Bmw Extended warranty and all will be fine.......

Sorry I'm not mechanically minded so I thought I should take the piss instead:thumb2

Pulling away in 3rd would certainly cause cool failure which could upset the bike's coolometer.
To fix it ride the bike like you stole it. Drift around bends and get the chicken strips down to 3mm.
Just in case the coolometer is working fine note the headers temperatures and swap the coils left right.

Met up for a group ride today (conveniently at a bike repair shop) and my bike sounded extremely rough, with reeves fluctuating at idle. It even stalled on me twice whilst riding and twice at idle.

Quick inspection of the plugs and they appear ok. Valve timing appears ok. So as trial and error Im thinking maybe the stick coils as suggested above? Am I right in thinking there are 4 of these, 2 either side? Can they be replaced individually or is it best to replace all 4 at the same time?

Try a TPS reset procedure first. Warm the engine sensibly then take it close to the redline through the gears on a suitable road. You may find it smooths out again. If it's still rough at high RPM under load, it's most likely coils.
