Has anyone noticed what their temperature guage does ? Mine changes constantly from 82 83 84 85 up to 90 then back down again then back up again etc . Took it to local BMW garage (Hursts) who plugged it in but no faults recorded . Got the bike at the end of june and it always stayed at 83 degrees on the guage except in traffic etc. Any ideas ?

I expect the readings to be quite normal. There is very little liquid in the BMW cooling system and the performance of the radiators will vary significantly depending on the ambient temperature and the velocity of air over the radiators. The cooling fan will kick in before high coolant temperatures become a problem (assuming you have not fitted an excessively restrictive radiator guard)
A point to watch from the F800s, some fans were prone to failing due to not being used for 99.9% of the time, the cooling was so good. When eventually it was required the diagnostics flash up an engine failure warning, I found it best to spin the fan after every wash and occasionally let the engine idle until the fan runs.

I would say thats normal for this time of year. The coolant in the engine heats up then the thermostat opens. The water in the rads is very cool, this brings the water temp down quickly, the stat shuts & the temp starts to rise again & so the cycle continues.

Mine does that all year. Temperature is up and down like a yoyo !!

There's nothing wrong with it, it's fine.

:-)

Mine too has started fluctuating wildly between 79 and 86, having been much more stable in the warmer months. However, all seems well and I am reassured that others have noticed similar behaviour.
