Engine tests?

I did run it extremely low on oil when I first got the bike last year - it had 26k miles on it then & was told that I had killed the bikes engine. Well its on 40k miles now and its still running.....no dicey noises at the moment.

However, Steptoe is right, I do have nights of waking up in a cold sweat thinking "what can I do to find out if the bike is likely to kark it in India / Pakistan / Iran - or any European country before them.

Ok, I realise that I've shortend the life of the engine by being a twat. Lesson learnt. But I need to find out by how much if at all.

I think I need to pay bmw battersea or the likes a visit and get an oil pressure test and steps says. If all is ok with that, should I relax and feel confident?

HEEEEEELLLPPPP MEEeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

Get it booked in with Steptoe let him do an oil pressure test , if it worries you that much let him strip it to its 'knickers'and take a look
You have a choice, do nothing = sleepless nights
Engine strip and re-build= empty wallet

Lifes like that !

best of luck
:(

Interesting, what should the oil pressure be? and do you measure it by removing the oil pressure switch and replacing it with some pipework and a pressure guage?

Brian,
You have a few choices,
Do nothing and worry, strip the engine and check, have some else strip the engine or you could have some oil analysis . there are other companies offering this analysis, do a google.

I would urge you to strip the engine your self and take a look. This will give you a lot of confidence to handle any problem that arises while your traveling.

If you have never rebuilt a GS consider finding (and paying) someone to show you how. worth paying a small amount up front (knowledge to take with you) rather it goes pear shaped in the back of beond.

very up for stripping the engine.

But dont have any expert GS heads around my parts (west london) - anyone out there know of someone that might be willing to do this for dosh, very keen to give dosh out for some kind of education on this.

Hows that for an ad?

Cheers,
