One of the F800 forums has a theory that bikes built since September 2007 have a better failure record. Have no idea whether this is correct.
08 GS EWS failure.......2000 miles!.........Doesn't really bother me too much.......It's a machine! I'm pretty much hooked on these bikes as I had a 57 before! However I think that as much as I find the constant moaners slightly tedious.....The sycophantic eejits that feel some unexplainable need to defend a certain manufacturing company is probably starting to get on my tits even more!............Great bike?.......Of course!......Quality assurance?.....falls well below the expectations that their own marketing folk have created!

Just my personal experience you understand...
5 weeks ago. Normandy. 3 boxheads on less than 2000 mile GSs - 2 of 3 had had EWS. (They bought them as a sort of 3 man GS club. I didn't ask vot is going on in ze back of ze tent, ja).
Outside my office. 3 new GSs. 2 have had EWS.
Mine's an 05 and I had the fool pump relay but not the EWS. It's without a doubt the best bike I've ever owned (of about 50 from ZZR to Busa to, er, MZ 250), with 300 miles a week of London riding, weekends away two-up and in September I'm taking it all over Yerp but, yes, I'll bag a spare EWS and FPR.
Also, just for the record, servo brakes feckin' rock as do South London BMW. Can I say that?

Mine is also 05, had the Fuel Pump relay but not EWS. Not sure if this has been experienced in UK, but on advrider there seems to be a theory that EWS failures started on 06 bikes onwards. Certainly do seem to be a lot of failures on new 08 bikes on this forum. Any pre 06 EWS failures out there?

Sorry I'm late, overslept and just found this.
Just on the poll mentioned it ran for 7 days on the 1200 section and I agree polls are not perfect and can be weighted in various ways to influence the result but of the 99 owners who took part 28 had an EWS error which despite what BMW have been telling me in emails is significant.
Had no EWS issues with my 2006 model but with 355 miles on the clock of the 2008 I joined the club.
One way or another BMW have to acknowledge somethings wrong rather than denying it's an issue.
Just my thoughts, still love the bike.

It's pefectly easy to make the poll fair. All we need to do is make sure that for every signle person who says they have had an EWS failure, we find another who states that he hasn't. Simple really.
So, reading between the lines, only 2008 bikes suffer from EWS and anyone who says otherwise is a big fat liar probly with Abba on their iPod. And that's a proven fact which cannot and must never be argued with.

My 08 Adventure had it's EWS replaced when it was in for a new ABS unit. The dealer has advised the front electric suspension is to be replaced as well once the parts arrive.
The EWS and the electric suspension replacements are technical bulletins. The bike has had no problems with these parts.

Carrying a spare ring antenna is the whole answer. My 57 GS had the EWS fault and needed a complete engine management module. Try fitting one at the roadside!!

Just to get it off my chest.
May.2007 – bought a pre-used 2005 1200GS
Rode away from the show room – 20 miles later recovered due to burnt valves.
About 1,000 miles later – Problems with the ABS
About 1,000 miles later – faulty throttle position sensor.
About 1,000 miles later – faulty abs speed sensor. Replaced corroded engine cover.
About 1,000 miles later – faulty front brake switch
About 1,000 miles later – Faulty LH indicator switch
Less than 500 miles after – Faulty front speed sensor.
(Thread stripped so new front fork leg)
About 20 miles later – ABS again, replaced the servo pumps.
About 7,000 miles covered so far, all work under warranty apart from the engine cover. Bought extended warranty this year for £350. No problems with fuel pump controller or antennae despite a number of sodden rides including France.
Why don’t I chop it in – would be more money and I haven’t found a bike that does two-up tractoring with full luggage as well as the GS (RT ?). Handling is second to none, beats mates on sportbikes on the bends. As they say – it is better to travel hopefully than to arrive, besides you meet some nice people at the roadside. They did offer me a new bike for little money, but a total of 11.5 big ones in a year for a bike was too much.
Like the man says you pays yer money .. then you have to sleep with it/in it ??. I dislike BMW's arrogant sales attitude, but cant fault their warranty and service.
