England....Scotland...rest of the World

Sorry Al, tongue in cheek or not, to try and use the IRA bombing campaign against the English as part of the independence pish is perverse.....and desperate??

To be honest, not worthy of you.

It sure looked like a mini rant to me, but that is just my opinion.
I certainly don't see a statistic of any sort in any line of your post. What I have seen is a few wind up merchants throwing in the "chips on shoulders" remarks in various threads and some people biting.

Give-up Al. Keep quiet. Its not worth arguing or trying to amuse with Scottish humour. They dont get it.
Its going to get bad if we lose. 1966 will be like the tiniest speck of dust compared to the flack we are going to get, both by the southern population and government.

Posting or receiving a parcel will be the least of your worries.

Buy a croft without a road to it. Ditch the telly. Drink whisky and look out to sea.

You know - I stopped posting on this forum back in 2009, for around 2 years - mostly because I didn’t like the way things were going with the constant reference to FEBs (Fucking English Bastards) by some Scots.

A few years later - it appears that the polar opposite is in place - the constant reference to "Jocks", "Sweaty socks", "Chip on your shoulder" etc………………..

I've found from experience that some "entities" try to "walk over you with kid gloves" (a useful mixed metaphor), and usually people let that go for a while, until such time as they decide to take a stand. It is at that point that the "You're over-reacting", "you've a chip on your shoulder" response is given. All fairly predictable.

The "tongue in cheek" was only in reference to the "connection" that the IRA "posted" Parcel bombs (as the discussion was about postal charges), but faced with more "chip on shoulder" comments - felt the need to highlight an unusual statistic………..

For all the Scottish regiments serving in Northern Ireland - I don't believe there were any attacks on the home soil of those regiments.

My own theory? The IRA viewed Scots as being an oppressed nation under England, and had an empathy for that.

I'm open to other theories on that one……………

Is it about independence for Scotland? Only in as much as I am rebutting what I believe to be bogus accusations.

What's the second rule?....................

"Stick to one-liners"?

Al

I think sweeping generalisations from both sides prevent any meaningful communication:

The OP said that "the English" disadvantaged the Scots in some way via postage or whatever, when in fact he meant 1 or maybe more idiots selling on eBay.

:nenau

They all look the same to me..... :augie.

Oh and Scot's [sic] what....? ;)

yeah I am with you on that had stuff delivered from Germany in 24 hours royal mail do a 24 hour service , but most carriers 48 hours plus for gwads sakes were only 20 miles north of Glasgow

The start was tongue in cheek - but if I remember correctly..........

The IRA only targeted England, despite there being army regiments based in Scotland.

Anyone got an alternate theory on that one?

Al

yeah the reason was I believe that west coast of Scotland funded both sides

This is a wind up right:rolleyes: Surely this is not serious, if it is then the OP is a fine example of those well balanced Scotsmen with a chip on both shoulders:blast You are like those Muslims who are constantly looking for the smallest and slightest infraction to become "offended" at. Petty and unworthy of your more rational fellow countrymen I am afraid. :rob

I think you'll find I'm a fine Lancastrian lad, and more typical a Scotsman you won't find. On the other hand my other half's a fine Invernessian lassie. But I do envelop all that's Highland, they are a fine race of people unlike you soft southern types.

My congratulations to you sir for integrating so seamlessly into Scottish society, there is hope for multicultural Britain yet:D
