Enough room for a helmet in a top box???

Wasn't really sure where to post this, and apologies that it is such a basic question...

...but does anybody know if an Arai Tour-X helmet fits in to a GSA aluminium top box (I have Varios at the moment which are fine, but the aluminium box looks like it has a smaller 'footprint').

A Shoei Multitech certainly does

I did find that putting the helmet into a helmet bag (the sof bag thing you get free with most new helmets) helped to lift it out.

My Tour x fits in fine, as Richard stated a helmet bags really helps.

I addition it will depend on the size of the lid, mine is a large, cant comment on an xl or above tho

Tour X3 small goes in the Topbox ok. Mine's large and goes in the RHS pannier easily - but mine into the topbox is a squeeze and be careful in both locations of scratching cos of the bolt heads that the wire is secured with.

Why not pop along to your local GS meeting and try your helmet in someone else's top box?

They'll be loads there judging by the number of winter warriors posting on other threads

Thanks all, sounds like it should be ok. Am tring to decide whether to have varios or aluminium on my next bike (GSA).

I have experience of the Varios which I like because of the ability of the top box to swallow helmet and gloves etc when expanded (without scratching anything) and the narrowness of the paniers when contracted to aid filtering.

Thing is, the GSA is coming with aluminium paniers - hence the indecision!


Think you are right that the best thing to do is go and try it (but if the helmet didn't fit it would have solved the problem).

Both my System 4 and AGV fit in the top box fine, but as per usual that sharp man Mr Wapping has made the sensible suggestion to use the bag! Personally i've never had a problem getting my helmet stuck in the box, must be a size thing.
