Hi all

I am embarking on a month long european trip in June this year. I am planning to go south via Italy and Greece (Athens and Chios) into Turkey landing at Cesme. I am then going north via Istanbul and the Baltic states into Finland :liv crossing the Artic Circle and home to Dover.:blagblah

I am well into the planning stages but need some info about landing at Cesme. So if anybody has travelled via Cesme recently can they answer the following:

1. Is there a place to purchase insurance when landing at the port??
2. Roughly how much is insurance for a short period??
3. UK driving licence or International driving licence??

Thanks in advance for the replies and anybody else who has any useful advice for me I will be grateful. This is the biggest trip I've undertaken and can't wait to get started. Does anybody know a good hotel in Istanbul which will lock up the F800GS for the night.:bounce1

Thanks GR

Most people enter Turkey through Greece or Bulgaria, so I doubt there's much info to be found here. There's a good chance the procedures are the same though, so look through the threads in the section and you'll find what you need.

Cesme is a tourist hotspot so you won't have any difficulties regarding the insurance. I believe you will be able to buy one at the customs offices.
In case they do not provide insurance services at the customs, you would find an insurance broker quite near since Chios-Cesme is a a busy route especially in the summer time and a lot of tourists come through.

I don't know how much the insurance will cost, however it would be a safe bet to say it should be roughly the same as in Greece.

Foreign nationals entering Turkey as tourists can operate any Turkish or foreign registered vehicles as long as they carry a valid driving licence issued from their home countries. Yet this stand true only for tourists and for trips upto 90 days. Any persons intending to stay more than 90 days, move to Turkey permanently or staying for non-touristic purposes (educational, business etc.) must apply to switch their foreign-issued driving licences with a Turkish one. So; no worries, you can ride with your U.K licence.

Loads and loads of hotels in istanbul, ranging from genuine s*itholes to palaces worthy of kings. So that pretty much boils down to how much you are planning to spend for a night's stay. In any case this would a nice place to start looking: http://www.expedia.co.uk/daily/shar...&stat=1&khst=1&locn=&ploc=&loid=178267&rdct=1
