erratic tickover after new gasket...help

If a lambda sensor is working properly then it should go from 0.2v to 0.9v or anywhere in-between, Even on tickover there should be a wave of some sort stepping from lean to rich to lean to rich, You can get a faulty lambda sensor that reads rich most of the time as well as lean most of the time. There is also slow or lazy sensors. Ive taken the lambda off the bike and I am going to do a bench test tomorrow with a dvm. At the very least I will know for sure through the voltage output at 600 degrees c.
The crankcase pressure tube from the airbox to valve cover is on and secured with the stupid bmw clip..I haven't checked for the o ring on the valve cover end connection...yet.
Ive had the airbox off, started the bike and was getting small flames from the 2 throttle body balance tubes ( the ones that go to the "t" piece on the bottom of the air box) when revved, also when the 2 pipes were squeezed the bike stalled.
Im going to bench test the o2 tomorrow,( if that tests ok) button it all back together and the do an air leak test...
Thanks for the ideas guys , keep them coming...cheers..Tosh

Very funny:blast

You certainly know your stuff:rob

Best of luck:thumb

Motocroz,
I nipped to the 1200 section because they suffer with fpc's..The vote is that when a fpc becomes faulty it shows the engine icon on the dash and when they go they go. I have good acceleration so I don't think it is the fpc...
Cheers for the idea..Tosh

Smug, All the info I have found on the tinternet, I do a bit of research and try to make a good judgment...I am no where near a mechanic but do find that the mechanics and enthusiasts on here help so much...
I need all the bloddy help I can get with this one mate..
Cheers ...Tosh

update,
Ive bench tested the o2 sensor and it looks like its working perfectly, cherry red gives nearly a volt, I don't know how to check for the heating element inside...I think it runs on a 5 volt trigger....
Could it be slow/lazy I don't know and there is no way to check that without a scope....So im crossing off the lambda and calling it working...
The only thing I can do now is to strip it all down again including the gasket and valve cover and see if anything is amiss inside the valve area...
Im just running out of ideas..I checked for air leaks using easy start but to be honest the erratic revs make it hard to trace a rise in revs from the easy start...
The back firing through the air box to throttle body pipes have got me flummoxed...As always I will keep ya posted...Tosh

that sounds like a timing issue. you haven't touched the cam chain, have you?

No I haven't touched the valve or electric timing...That was my thought. .hmm ...electric and valve timing is way too much for me...Im leaning on a software issue. Ive had the battery off for about 5 months ive reset the tps three times now...Im just wondering if the software can "disappear" ....Maybe an upgrade of some type....
Im sorry to say it but I think its gonna go to main dealers...I hate loosing a battle ....Tosh
Which dealer to go to...Grimsby or York....

Another thought

Just reading the Haynes manual and it all points to air leaks as you have checked the engine management system. Another thing As you haven't mentioned cleaning the injectors ( was the fuel dirty ) it says this could give improper air/ fuel mix and cause knocking or pinking.
Again just a thought or more confusion

The fuel was very low throughout the winter, ie, There is a good chance that water or condensation would be in the tank. I have filled up the tank with a jerry can ( new fresh fuel) and put 1/4 bottle of dry fuel just to make sure..
I have never cleaned an injector.. I wouldn't know what one looks like to be honest.. I thought that injectors can only be cleaned ultrasonically... just shows what I know...
I wonder if a bad/dirty injector or maybe both would cause back firing through the feed pipes...
May I just ask...People on here has said over and over again about air leaks..
Surely just an air leak would cause all the problems I am having.... I am going to sleep on this.. Thankyou..food for thought..Tosh

This is likely very obvious, but have you made sure the:
- thepressure sensor plug is attached
- the changeover valve plug is attached
and
- the temperature sensor plug is attached

All 3 were disconnected when you did your work, just wondering if one was hiding when you buttoned it back up and was forgotten?

The temp sensor one might be a likely suspect.

When your checking all sensors are plugged in, also good idea to unplug them and take a look for bent pins on the male contact, or corrosion on the pins :)

motocroz
That's a very kind offer mate, I don't think I would like to go that deep mate but I will let ya know...Cheers .Tosh

Mikemike,
3 plugs ???????
To take the airbox off there is a plug on the very top of the airbox....There is another plug on the right hand side near the bottom of the airbox .... There is two small tubes from the throttle bodies and a larger one from the valve cover...So am I missing something.....

as an ex mech and long time fiddler of things - if somethings gone wrong after you've done something - its you thats caused the problem.

things don't suddenly fail like that.

if it was me - i'd take it all apart again and double check everything you did.

here is the location of the two plugs that I know of

They are the only two I know of...?????

kaister,
That's my last resort before it goes to the stealers...sorry I meant dealers...I hope it wont come to that....Tosh
