Hi,

I'm going to look a fool here, bear in mind I'm a mechanical neanderthal. This morning on my 2011 RT I was altering the rear preload, rider, rider & luggage, rider and pillion. At each setting I could feel the bike get progressively lower. I just assumed that preloading the rear would compress the spring and raise the bike to keep the bike level with the extra weight of the pillion, i.e. do the opposite of what its doing. So I'm stood here scratching my head, I've googled and read up but am just as confused. In reality I just need to know that's how it should work and I can stop scratching my head :-)

I appreciate I've opened by myself up to abuse but showing off my ignorance in print :-)

In the order you list the bike should rise to compensate for the additional weight.

From my limited experience the preload motor will work in reverse if you flip the current neg/pos pos/neg - quite how that would happen is beyond me though.

...is the front rising first making you think the rear has dipped and you're not noticing the rear then rise

I've tested it sat astride the bike with both feet on the ground and can feel the movement on the inside of my thighs as it raises and lowers. I'll have a look whilst off the bike to see if my senses are fooling me. Um strange

Thanks, I haven't touched a thing on the bike, as my lack of mechanical knowledge will attest :-)

I think he has the BMW Anne Summers attachment fitted, I was going to get this, but the dealer could only get used at the time, so thought I'd wait!

Gotta get my Christmas joy where I can :-)

On a more serious note, I had my switchgear changed under warranty a couple of weeks ago, I wonder if that could be connected?

Sounds like the new switch gear is plugged in the wrong way round, although you would assume that this would be a one-way only connector.

How long have you had the bike, is this the first time you have altered the setting, is this the first time you have noticed it ?

You are correct it is not possible to reverse the connection in error.

Just a thought...have you rode it? I would expect to feel the results as I rode the machine, not sitting on it on the drive.
