ESA Really Firm Today

So I'm dreaming about

ESA going wrong
Engines & drive trains replaced due to corrosion
Clutch fixes and replacement of said parts
Screens cracking
RT's with warped body panels
Bikes replaced for disgruntled owners

I must have misread all the posts in the WC section and therefore I apologise for commenting

:augie

Believe half of that you see and none of that you read........
Comment all you like your lack of experience does little to validate your opinion and views, which are well known on this section.
Who mentioned dreaming?

You get a VERY false perspective of reliability on internet forums

People search the internet when they have a problem with a bike or a car. They then join a forum and tell everyone about their issue. Nobody searches the internet, joins a forum to say they've had no trouble. I bought a VW Transporter in 2009 with 107k miles on it, after reading forums I regretted buying it because according to t'internet my clutch was going to explode and my water pump was going to fail. 7 years on, no problems.

In fairness JB what about all the final drives, fuel strips, gearboxes, servo ABS, Alternator issues with pre LC bikes These hallowed pages are full of problems with all the bloody lot LC and otherwise !

Indeed they are

Seems like the XR1000 is more perfect than the GS series

I think the build quality is better than my GSa LC
Eg the rear rack on the XR which to look at is identical to the Gs, is metal on the XR and plastic on the Gs

So I have to buy one to have a valid viewpoint

All the people who have expressed dissatisfaction with their awesome steads & had to trot back with an issue and thus commented here about the experience aren't to be believed

I find that hard to comprehend

Still they do ride well & that's all that matters :thumby

Who said you have to buy one?
Do you have any meaningful experience of this model or not, or is it limited to what you've read here ?
Not a trick question I'm sure you can comprehend that.

JB, just remember.... for every disgruntled owner there are 100's if not 1000's of satisfied owners :thumb2

As WaterMonkey says people mostly only post when they have a problem/issue. If everyone who was happy posted, they would far outnumber those with problems :)

Basing your opinion of the LC on what you read here makes you appear somewhat narrow minded and insular..... both of which you are not.

That is just begging to be "fixed" :D

Exactly.:thumb

If I commented in the 11xx section whenever there's a problem, I'd soon be shot down. In fact, on the very rare occasions that I've ever posted in there, along the same lines as JB posts in this section, my posts were deleted.

Can't imagine why!

I sat on one yesterday in AJ's - does that count? :augie

Used ones are coming with 24 months BMW warranty and Assist now :thumby

Don't think that BMW bikes today are any more or less reliable than any other makes (although they have gained a bit of a reputaion in recent years of using customers as their test riders) , yes people will post when they have problems and often to find out if others have had similar problems .( it came in handy that I could go to the dealer and BMW UK armed with the relevant information when BMW claimed that NO WC models had suffered ESA faults)

The major rub to many on the site is those BMW Xenophobic members who will immediately go on the defensive and automatically blame the problem on USER ERROR when the reliability of a new model (they also own) is brought into disrepute .

Example last year of slagging someone off because of right hand switch failure whilst they were on holiday as they had been stupid enough to have actually USED the kill switch (mine failed and the kill switch had never been used ....it was due to a batch of cheap below standard switch units).

Mind you they would have fought tooth and nail for the virtue of the 1100, 1150, early production 1200,mid production 1200 , 1200tc models which they used to own prior to the purchase of the newest hot poop model on the market and ignoring any issues the models had .

Face facts BMW motorcycles do have problems ,whether they are caused by a lack of development, slipping standards of finish or the use of inferior quality ancilliary parts and yes BMW will fix them via the dealer network but don't automatically go into defensive mode and slag off the OP (especially those new to the site) who are posting with a genuine problem

I didn't buy the GSA because of any hype or expectation that the thing was 100% fit for around the world tours, but i did buy it because it was the best bike i test rode and i expected a BMW to be reliable and get me to work everyday. I can't say i'm not disappointed, but I've had many issues with many bikes so understand these things happen. I just didn't expect expect it with the BMW.

Well, sounds like a result, let us know how you get on....might be useful to those unfortunate few who do not have a perfect bike.
