ESA Really Firm Today

TE spec is best, didn't the salesman tell you...............nobody will want a 'poverty' spec bike come trade-in time or the residual will be so much lower so the monthly PCP will be higher:D

We won't sell you a 'poverty' spec bike, it's not in your interest sir (real tale - it'll take us 8 weeks for a factory order, but we have a warehouse full of TE's that we need to shift:blast)

How we have been taken down a garden path.........:P

You never went down that garden path did you ?

Nearly at one point, but so glad I didn't:thumby:

I couldn't be doing with the mither:comfort

Only minor difference is that I paid for the damn thing with my hard earned. A WC GSA would be awesome on a set of well sorted non ESA Wilbers...... But you are right....I would never be able to sell it.

Dealers want to sell you a TE because it is what they persuade punters they need to buy , if you have a bike on PCP or keep a bike until the 2 year warranty runs out then buy a TE.

If you are buying a R1200GS/GSA to keep long term and you are paying the bills once the warranty period is up then buy a non ESA , non LED headlight model (£4 a bulb not £800 a headlight unit ) specced up with decent aftermarket suspension .

The ESA is a pain in the arse , mine was playing up again and had to have yet another full suspension reset at service , on the way home it was bloody worse being almost rigid. Left it a week and it was fine yet a few days later it was playing up again .

Never again will I buy a BMW with poxy ESA as I am not risking having another bad un

You are right, electronically activated suspension seems a gimmick, not really needed.............unless you want the punter to have it:D

Nice 1150 GS in your avatar, is it yours :augie

No, I feckin sold it and before you ask...yes I do regret it BUT.....I have a 2013 TC GSA with Wilbers WESA and AF XEID units....love it....also spoilt with and 80g/s PD when I want to go all analogue....perfect combo.

It might just be a case of resetting / recalibrating. Fingers crossed!

AJ's have confirmed that it needs a new rear shock absorber as the damping has completely gone. They're putting in a goodwill warranty claim to BMW given the bikes low mileage and full service history.

I'd also complained about the ESA previously before the first annual service and they have this logged, so it will be included as evidence of a potential defect whilst the bike was still under warranty.

I also complained (threw a wobbly) about the corrosion starting to reappear on the replacement engine, so they're going to add that to the claim

Just dropped mine off at Allan Jefferies as the suspension damping was solid yesterday, irrespective of whether it was on soft, normal or hard settings :(

It's out of warranty too, although hopefully it's just software. I'm starting to wish I'd bought a non-ESA bike now

That happened to me once .... I disconnected and reconnected the battery and it's been fine ever since :thumb2

Bloody hell...hope you get it sorted. The TC wasn't perfect but when I read this stuff I am so pleased I got shot of my WC.....and befor Nutty comments...I am aware that a forum does give a representative view....but I still think the build qulity is shite! :D

Same here, after reading your post having done this, and it's been back to like it was when new ever since. If it acts up I'll just disconnect it again.

I'd already tried that, but it didn't work :(

If I don't get it replaced through a "goodwill" warranty claim, it'll either be a rebuild at Firefox Racing as they're local or a Wilber's WESA unit

Or I could reject the bike as it's a lemon i.e. it's had an engine replaced due to corrosion and it's now corroding again after a few months and now the rear shock absorber has failed at 15k miles  AJ's seemed worried when I mentioned this option....

One of the reasons why I went with the 1190R and not the standard 1190. My WP manual suspension is superb, it's probably taken me a year to dial it in to how I really want it (!!) but the way the bike floats over the road surface (once you get it right) is just sublime .... :thumb2

A very wise decision, I think Cookie is of the same opinion

Electronic adjusting suspension cannot cover all the same bases as manual, I suspect

Until the dealer can program the bikes suspension according the the riders weight, it never will be as good. I still can't understand why this isn't an option in this day and age.

Because it has nowt to do with damping adjustment, it's linked to spring weight and unless the dealer can change the springs to each rider (which they'll never want to to take on) and in turn whether he takes a pillion/luggage/road surface..................there is no nirvana

However a properly set up quality shock, with the correct spring weight..............makes a decent stab at it:thumby:
