Having had my new GS :D for a couple of weeks now i find myself intrested in the ESA settings

I have found the base settings good (im 6ft and 15st) and also add luggage if i have the panniers on for work. (Normal, Sport, Comfort)

Has anyone used other settings and how has it been ? or used a setting for something it wasnt designed for for a differnent use ?

I find "Normal" fine for most of the time and only use "Sport" for riding like a tw*t on twisty roads or when two-up with luggage.

I was amazed at how well damped the bike was in "Sport" damping + two-up preload in the Alps this summer despite a 17st rider, 11st pillion, panniers, topbox and tankbag. Pity the engine was a bit wheezy though...

BikerJim, why not just try alternative settings, which I guess is what others have done?

You can't break it.

If you find YOU like some other setting (or hate it) it is all that matters.

Rider plus luggage for preload, sport for damping. Works for me and the way I like to ride, might be different for you.

And yeah, I am fat.

Off road setting changes the power curve and unlocks a further 5hp in the engine:D Just leave it in that....:thumb

Sound advice, but as your too lazy to press the buttons yourself...

I managed to go through all the modes in a few hours of test riding a 2010 model, an hour or so solo, then an hour or so with 'er indoors. Then another test ride solo again as I thought that me liking a GS was some sort of surreal dream, so I pinched myself and went back to the dealer for another go.

Comfort = Loads of wallow
Normal = Some Wallow
Sport = Not much Wallow

It seemed to "clunk" over small bumps and give a ride quaility far worse than my Ohlins shod ZZR despite having twice the travel on every mode.

My 2008 model is the same, it has an adjuster which also ranges from loads of wallow to very little wallow but takes about 15 seconds to adjust, so no good for those such as yourself that are finding pressing a button a bit too much.

I thought I needed to rant on a bit, as these types of glib replies are normally the preserve of wapping who seems to be a bit off form today.

:thumb 1 up luggage setting on, in sports mode, defo steers quicker, now slightly less like the Torrey Canyon:D:D:D

Best regards Stretch :)

1 (+ luggage if you want the bike to steer a bit more quickly).

Soft in town to soak up the bumps.

Normal on most roads and especially on good twisty, bumpy GS roads where Sport is too hard and will bump you off line and actually make you slower.

Sport only on smooth, fast, twisty roads.

In the wet - go fully soft on preload and damping with the option of switching to normal on the aforementioned smooth, fast, twisty roads.

I've never explored the off-road settings - anyone got thoughts on these?

BikerJim must be the first bloke since man first stepped upright from the cave, who (when faced with buttons) does not have a burning desire to push them.... If only to find out what they do :D

If you'd read his posts on the Ducati forums you wouldn't be surprised. No offence intended Jim, better to be careful than impetuous.

Isn't the sport mode more for off road. You may find that the rear might skip whilst on a bend when on normal road surface.

JMO :mmmm

You are exactly right :thumb2

You are exactly wrong.

May I refer our friend dahn sarf to Section 4; Page 70 of the good book...

If a road-riding mode has been selected the following can be displayed:
- COMF: comfort mode
- NORM: normal mode
- SPORT: sport mode
If an off-roading stage for off-road riding has been selected the following can be displayed:
- SOFT yada yada etc....
:blast

ESA SPORT MODE

Thought this is for fast road or possibly track use as it has seperate setting for off road use that raises the damping giving more travel through the shocks,which in itself makes the bike taller so small arses leave this mode well alone ,unless you have crash bars and head protectors :augie:D:D
