ESA2

Thanks for that...but as I said I can't detect it changing position at all.

Can I borrow your wife for a morning just in case it is me????? :D

Thanks for that.

Went out again today and the rear suspension does move up and down when you put it into 2 helmet/luggage mode combinations..........so that appears OK.

I haven't ridden it since my ride home from the dealers but I still recall that whichever mode ie sport/normal/comfort you had it in it felt the same which was quite harsh and I would guess at probably being sport mode.

The 2 loan RT's I have ridden were much more compliant as I recall....but then my memory COULD be playing tricks on me I suppose.

Could it be possible that the 2 helmet/luggage system works OK but NOT the sport/normal/comfort settings?

When I set it to either sport/norma//comfort and am off the bike should I be able to detect the bike/springs/shocks doing anything?

Thanks for assistance so far.

If you have Bridgestone BT21's on it (OEM fitment), that could be your compliancy problem. Get rid of them.

Stonehenge,

Thanks for that, but I have Bridgestone BT023's on it.

Plus, I would have thought it more likely that the 2 loaners I have ridden, both dealer bikes with very low mileage would have had OEM tyres fitted and as I said I found both those to be far more 'comfy' on the appropriate settings.

I find the preload on my RT to be too high for my body weight (78kilos in full riding kit) so the suspension never works for me in normal but if I run in comfort where the preload is set about right then the bloody thing is too bouncy on the rebound. Perhaps on future models MR BMW will give us an ESA system where you can fine tune the base setting as you can on the Multistrada.

Just check

You need the engine running to change the preload - perhaps you just had the ignition on? For the preload - set to one helmet on comfort and get off and bounce the back end, you should feel a well damped but fairly soft bounce, if you know what I mean.... Static sag around 25mm or so. Now set to 2 helmets - the bike rises up. Still on comfort, you will hardly be able to bounce the bike at all and will have no static sag, set to sport and should feel just about rock solid.

As I recall, you have to be in neutral with the engine running to change preload.

Regardless, you will be hard pushed to find any change anywhere with any setting.
Front end is either hard or harder - maybe.
Compared to 1100RT - much harsher in all modes.

Myke

Perhaps my memory is playing tricks..................thanks for all the responses and help folks.

All will be revealed next week when I go back to the dealer.

Unless anyone wishes to comment further, perhaps we should consider the thread closed.

Thanks again.

Timaloy,

OK sorry.................more like no need for people to post further with help is probably more accurate.

I will let you all know.

Ta.
