I'd quite like to get people's opinions (not guesses) on how they compare the two bikes?

I have spoken to a few people who have moved from Euro 3 to Euro 4 GS's recently and all have favoured the Euro 4.

What are your thoughts?

For & Against.

I've just ordered a Triple black Euro 4 without a test ride :/ couldn't resist the deal! Moving from a 2014 GS TE.

I rode my 2016 back to back with the 2017 e4.

Pros for e4 - clunk reduced into first gear. The rest of the gearbox felt pretty much the same. Clocks easier to read. Errr that's it.

Cons - didn't feel as sprightly. Maybe just the exhaust more restrictive for e4? Otherwise they both run great.

Either way, I would imagine anyone who buys a new bike will says it's much better than their previous steed, and that may be the case for those who suffered with engine corrosion or poor clutch/box action on earlier models. When I had the chance to ride the e4 I jumped at it, but other than the above, it felt just the same as mine.:nenau

Verdict - you will love it, just as e3 owners love theirs :thumb2

I test rode a few before buying new tbh probably the best one was a used 2014 with the lighter flywheel. That felt a lot nippier than both the 2016 and 2017 bikes.

Worry about nothing, you have ordered the very best GS currently available today. It is a fully sorted bike, nice clutch, nice box, nice comfortable ride, very hot heated grips, great improved seats.
I have covered 3500miles on mine since September, and it is my 4th GS-LC (inc x1 GSA-LC) my previous GS's were superb but had minor flaws, they are all fixed on the T/B E4
Count your sleeps and sleep happy.
Actually you were lucky to get hold of a T/B I was told that they are no longer available.

tripple black

cannons bmw braintree essex have triple black in stock ready to go euro 4 2017

Did a 90 mile test ride on a Euro 4 TB last Friday and found no real difference in performance. The speedometer was easier to read as mentioned and the clattering engine was much quieter! The gearbox was a bit better than my 2015 Euro 3 but not as good as I had expected! I will change in the Summer but not before as it isn't that much better!

I have the 2016 E3 TB and test rode the E4 whilst mine was in having a new water pump. Agree with all above about the differences, but I particularly felt the E4 was less perky. Great bike though.

Does it have to be a Triple Black? These threads appear to develop into people talking about the triple black, as if it gets magical powers from the paintwork?

Al :D

No perhaps not, but the T/B does come with spokes, some folk think that they improve the ride, I don't know if that's true?

Also the T/B comes with the 'exclusive' seats which are definitely more comfortable that the standard GS seat.

I'm not sure about whether being big and black gives it special powers...perhaps it does! :aidan

Best seat I have had in years, even better (for me) than my RT.
The e3 is quicker though ;)

fatnfast, I think that you might be right in that the e3 is marginally quicker delivering slightly more punch in mid-range 4500rpm to 5500rpm.

However I also feel that the E4 is maginally smoother around 2500rpm to 3500rpm due better fueling low down ...good for slow traffic and filtering.

Hi,

I've recenty done just that, gone from a 14yr TE to a 16yr Alpine TE (Euro 4) and done 2000miles in 3 months.
I find the new bike smoother, with less clunky gearbox and easier to ride at slower speeds. Can't say I've noticed any difference in performance.

Enjoy :)

I had a 2013 GS now have a new E4 GS, in white again Bearing in mind this is a comparison between a 15000 miles 'old bike' and a brand new one. Actually come to think of it it not even an E3 v E4 is it? Or a Trplie Black either...sorry!
The new one is not as quick or as unruly (but it is new) it does not rattle anywhere as much, the gearbox is smoother, it seems to turn into corners better but the old one had TKC 70's this has new Annakees (oh and a steering damper), the Akrapovich seems quieter? Not as raucous and doesn't bang and pop on the overrun on Dynamic. Bigger clocks yes, Keyless, yes but not sure about that yet... Quick shift. WTF is that for? Changing 47 yrs of riding habits is not easy!! Overall though it seems altogether more civilised, I quite like it. Have yet to do a long ride yet so we shall see.
Oh yes and...... heated grips that actually heat up and are HOT...... worth changing it just for that.

That's sounds about right. I never noticed and low down fuelling problems with the E4, it was just fine as slow speeds.

E3 or E4 (triple black or standard) it still looks way better than the updated model IMHO. :)

Collected my E4 a few weeks back, and it's definitely lacking the mid range punch the E3 had, however, it's still a peach of a motor considering it's a twin. The gearbox has been tweaked also, and with shift assist it's really slick, in a nutshell quite an improvement.

It all seems quite positive from the majority of the comments. Which is obviously good to hear for me. I just dropped off my beloved yesterday for the part ex. Pick up the new girl 2nd Jan!

I get my E4 GS delivered on the 28th, so great to read the feedback as I purchased mine without even trying it.

I've previously owned a 2013 GS TE and a 2015 GSA TE, both great bikes but the E4 sounds like it has some great improvements. I've purchased the Akra slip on that I plan to fit the day its delivered so maybe that will improve the missing midrange that's been mentioned?
