Monday 31st May
We wake up and peer out of the prisoncell2... Its raining.. not heavily but that really wet rain that soaks you through.. Bugr.. We were going to visit Ordour sur Glane, however thats not gonna happen in this weather. We make the most of the meagre offerings from breakfast and pack the bikes up.
As its raining today my bike decides it wants some more oil before we set off. We knock off 30 or so miles on the motorway and top up with petrol. Its sheeting it down, and motorway work is not proving to be that much fun.
We were planning to ride most of the day on twisty roads. I was thinking about just cracking it all out on motorway and getting to a nice warm hotel room.. But then where's the fun in that... We cracked on into the twisty roads.. The rain kept pouring but the roads were pretty nice even though waterlogged, and seen through a rainy visor !.. We pulled up in a little town called Argentat and found some shelter. Ella's "Bonedry" waterproofs werent living up to their name... So we had a rest and we both dried off as best we could...
We cracked on and made it to Aurillac around lunchtimeish... Saw a couple of German tossers on GS pull up outisde a restaurant so thought if its good enough for them it is for us.. I hadn't had a pee since first leaving in the morning, so by now I was busting !! Nearly warmed my textiles up, but managed to fumble around and find some coins for a pissour ! All of course while doing the I need a piss dance....
After my little jig I went into the restaurant to see if we could get some lunch.. It appeared that the owner took a disliking to me and said there was no food.. Maybe something got lost in the translation, but we weren't getting fed.. i reckoned she's seen Ze germans outside and assumed they were with us... oh well.. we moved on, back into the rain....
The road after Aurillac turned into smooth flowing twisties and we were having fun despite the rain.. As we got nearer Entraygues sur Truyere the road got epic... Wish it hadn't been wet otherwise we could have had some great fun.. We stopped in town for a coffee and the rain even stopped for a few minutes... The road out lead us along a stunning gorge, which we could nearly see the tops of through the mist !
We stopped for a few more photies at a place called Estaing, then headed up a few more goat tracks before eventually finding the motorway...
The rain decided to turn itself up again, and now the roads were getting higher the wind picked up aswell.. Great fun when you overtaing lorries in loads of spray across a viaduct... But as we dropped off the motorway north of Millau the skies parted, and the sun came through. Even the tarmc dried off... We caught a glimpse of the Millau viaduct in the distance and could see where we were heading off tomorrow into the the Cevennes national park. Its been a really hard day bit very rewarding. Bring on more twisties tomorrow !!
