Europa Bike insurance.

Sage advice Wapping. Thanks.

The insurance company that’s mentioned on the paperwork is Aeges or similar. It’s in the top right hand corner of their Correspondence.

Thanks for the advice Jim!

I've already raised a complaint for them being uncontactable and the situation I was in earlier. I cancelled the auto-renew policy through their portal plus made sure the agent on the phone confirmed that the auto-renew was cancelled so I won't be giving them any more money (thank god). I might sell my bike within the 6 weeks though to buy myself a BMW F800 ST for a European tour I'm planning so I don't think I'll get the dummy quote just yet.

I'll wait for them to make the next move on this as they said they would contact me to confirm the cancellation so I think this might just be a case of the first-level customer support employee being clueless (both on Europa Bike and the under-writer side) so hopefully they get their act together and apologise instead of cancelling but we'll see.

I'll let you know what happens and thank god for this forum post otherwise I would have been truly stuck!

Edit: forgot to mention that I tried making the change in their portal but just get a generic error which seems to be their website's main response to any action 😂
I hope you get sorted and have a great time on your. Nice bike to do it all on too. Hope your getting first service done afore ye go!!!

I am guessing but maybe the chimp didn’t explain it too well.

It is possible that the insurer has a specific policy for learner riders, which (might) become unsuitable or even unusable when someone passes their test. Of course we don’t know if this is what has happened here but it is a possibility.

Either way, it does not excuse the chimps apparently rude attitude on the phone to a customer.

My suggestions:

1. Go back to Europa and see if you can get to talk to someone more helpful.

2. See if they can resolve the problem. If they can, job done.

3. Tip-off the Ombudsman anyway, as Europa sound as if they need staff training.

The chimp is correct in that you need a full year (not 365 less 42 days) to accumulate a year’s no claims bonus. But, by the chimp apparently cancelling your insurance and not putting something in its place (at least for the six weeks left to run under your existing policy) it sounds as if you might have been rasped by a pineapple.

based on the level of incompetence, you might be lucky and the policy remains intact for the next 6 weeks as the droid did not push any cancellation buttons. You might even get a renewal notice evidencing the NCD in 2 or 3 weeks.
Stick your reg no. into the https://ownvehicle.askmid.com/ robot after the bank holiday weekend to see if the bike is still on the database.

That cannot be right.

I raised a complaint with FCA and would suggest you do the same.

By their very nature, motor vehicle insurances are drawn up to reflect dependencies and interim changes, which they themselves refer to in offering the ‘change’ facility - and charge you for.

So, to take you off cover simply because of a change option, sounds wrong.

The very nature of this type of insurance means changes will happen, that’s why we use it.

Have you looked at a dummy quote for the renewal in 6 weeks. I did and have found Bennett’s will be substantially less.

Also, make sure you’ve clicked the option NOT TO AUTOMATICALLY RENEW YOUR POLICY.

Finally, have you tried the customer portal to make your changes, although I doubt you’ll get that now as I suspect they’ve put ‘flags’ on your profile/policy. As I said a few posts ago europa bike are a SHOWER OF ABSOLUTE BASTARDS!!

Jim
They finally got back to me and have now told me they have amended the policy and not cancelled it - took a whole day to get to this point but thank god we got there and I only have 6 weeks left on the contract and never have to speak to them again.

Thanks again for the help everyone!

Good news - common sense prevails. Enjoy that new bike and bike tour. Was there any increase in premium.

Others, please read the experience herein about Europa Bike. Terribly bad.

No increase in the premium luckily just amended the details - probably too much of a headache for the droid to get extra money out of me just for the next 6 weeks. The next challenge will be getting my 1 year no claims proof from them early so that I can get a policy from Bennetts lined up 😅

Thanks again for all the help everyone
